It all comes under the banner of progress. Liverpool are getting a new stadium, new investment, with the potential for 60,000 people in the new stadium.

Liverpool have to keep up with the likes of Man Utd, who get 76,000 fans for their home games, and with Chelsea and, of course, with Arsenal who have just moved to their new stadium.

For Liverpool to continue in the top four in this country I think it's a necessity for the club to be sold.

Anfield has been Liverpool's home since 1891
The only concern about foreign investors is whether they've got the club at heart.

Fans don't want them to come along and, in five years time, look to sell on.

But Liverpool chairman David Moores has always been of the opinion that it has to be best for the football club. He'd never sell the football club short.

I don't think fans will be particularly bothered who owns the football club as long as they keep it as their football club.

The thing with fans is they just want a successful football team and if that means a foreign owner, it means a foreign owner.

I think the future is bright for Liverpool.

They're about to go to a brand new ground with 60,000 fans, I think there's investment and arguably better use of the brand name - and they are a worldwide brand.

This will help the manager Rafael Benitez buy even better players and help keep them up with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea and the teams in the Champions League - if not overtake them.

We werent FORMED until 1892...does Lawro have to be wrong about EVERYTHING?

I dont want to say there will be limitless funds in the summer, because clearly there wont be, but I think we can expect that elusive 'world class winger' and 'twenty goal a season striker'.
An interesting comment for me, was something along the lines of "We're not going to put a budget on things". Could be taken one of two ways, but despite it being somewhat non-commital, it also sounded rather 'money is no object' too.

Very interesting times ahead. You're right about the Rafa role in it, he'll pop some names down on a piece of paper and deliver it upstairs. Then he'll put his feet up and start daydreaming about possibilities and options. The big men at the top will do the wheeling and dealing.

With all this money comes extra pressure for Rafa, if he gets the players he wants then theres no excuses, but i bet Rafa is licking his lips at the taught.
I'm not a follower of US sports. Can you put that Rodriguez deal into context for me, with regards to how it compares to other deals in the sport?

Maybe you could compare it to a potential football deal, eg similar level of player and price.

It's like buying Maradona or Zidane in his prime and paying all the money in the world for him.

Gigantic. The biggest thing in the sport's history, if I'm correct?

TBH im glad its all finally over, and i feel quietly optimistic with a healthy dose of apprehension that this doesnt go belly up as its obviously very early days.

Gut feeling says that the future will be bright for the club.

it is what they call sports clubs over there

I think there will be a few times when they blurt out some of the American words. I was quite impressed with how they managed to call it Football and not Soccer for the whole PC.

in terms of comparing the A-Rod deal to a football deal...i would have to say its in the Zidane to Madrid league. A-Rod was the best player in the league...by some margin. Hicks somehow managed to get him to sign for the Rangers, even though he wasn't that keen at first.

hicks looks like a big texan hardass and gillett looks and sounds quite gentlemanly/reserved but determined and respectful of our tradition - not bad qualities for money men backing our club. the old fashioned part of me really liked the way the see themselves as business families and were anxious to make this clear.

It basically ****s all over the Beckham deal to LA. It's the biggest deal in sport(s) history.

I think that you could compere it with the Villa buy out fee of £99m and we would pay that for him.

It would smash the World record in the same way as it smashed the record in the MLB.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
