I think his days with us are done. IMO he should take a decent pay cheque and head off for the States, where given the speed and standard of the game he would score hatfuls. He could head up a Liverpool youth development programme over there on the side, working with Stevie Nicol.

Fowler will stay work with the youth kids more while still playing a bit part in the team i.e Reserves/Carling Cup/F.A Cup and be on the bench if injuries or other players need rest.
He would be happy to work with those terms id say, rather then mve to another club where his heart isnt in it.When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

Whatever happens we would be foolish to not offer him a position as a figure head and probably also a coach in soccer schools - be they in this country or abroad - when we let him go as a player.Originally posted by hertsred View PostI think his days with us are done. Your comments about his touch etc are extremely harsh IMO, any player who doesnt start regularly would suffer from that until they regain match sharpness, by no means is it an indication that someone is finished.Originally posted by rushscored4 View PostHowever, this season he has been absolutely awful and that's not just my opinion but every other season ticket holder I know. It was amusing that his mate David Maddocks was singing Robbie's praises in the Mirror today but even Ray Charles could see on Saturday that he was finished. His touch was dreadful and twice we lost possession and two good chances when the ball just rolled under his feet.

That said, Robbie simply cant play week in week out at the highest level anymore, and he hasnt been the same since the awful knee injuries a few years back.
The god given talent that he has for scoring will never leave him, whatever level he plays at, 183 goals in 363 games says it all for me.
I dont believe Rafa will show any sentiment in regards to a new contract and Robbie will move on next season. I would love for the club to find a role for him perhaps in a coaching capacity, although that may be a few years away.
Fact is that the club has to look forward, not back, legends have come and gone before and they will do again, but his last game will be an emotional moment for those of us privileged enough to have seen him play.If you've lost your faith in love and music the end won't be long

Nicol claims he's spoken to fowler
from sporting life
New England Revolution coach Steve Nicol has claimed he has held talks with former Liverpool team-mate Robbie Fowler about a move to Major League Soccer.
Fowler's contract at Anfield expires in the summer and with Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez still pursuing another striker after agreeing a deal to sign Andriy Voronin from Bayer Leverkusen, the 31-year-old appears unlikely to be offered a new deal.
There have been suggestions that Fowler could seek a fresh start by following David Beckham to MLS, where he could join up with the man he played alongside for the Reds in the early 1990s.
And Nicol said: "We'd be interested in Robbie. But at the moment the first thing is the financial side.
"We've spoken, but as of yet there's nothing been settled. He's really just dipping his foot in the water here. It's something he's thinking about.
"He's getting his ducks in a row. Whether he gets a contract at Liverpool or whether he moves on, he's dipping his foot in the water."
The Revolution have been one of the most consistent teams in MLS in recent seasons, reaching the MLS Cup final in each of the last two seasons, only to suffer defeats at the hands of the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2005 and the Houston Dynamo last season.
However, with the departure of key man Clint Dempsey to Fulham in January, Nicol knows there is a need to rebuild, and he has some money from the Dempsey deal to invest in wages.
Nicol - who fended off a $1million offer from Celtic for midfielder Shalrie Joseph this winter - is in a strong position to make an impact signing using the designated player slot, the mechanism which allowed the Galaxy to sign Beckham to a contract which could be worth up to $250million in salary and endorsements over five years.
"Through the sale of Clint we have some money available," he said. "But the problem we have is that, because of the type of money David Beckham has got, a lot of people think everybody has that kind of money which is not the case.
"At the present time speaking to some people we're pretty much miles apart in terms of the financial side. We're certainly interested in getting somebody in, but we're not going to do anything stupid.
"We're not going to sling ridiculous amounts of money at just anybody. We need to find a player who is going to come in and be a leader, show some of the young guys what it's about, and be able to do something on the field. If we do get someone in we're going to be looking for quite a lot from them."
Meanwhile, Nicol has watched with interest from afar as Liverpool were taken over by American investors this year.
Nicol admitted he was not familiar with the businessmen involved - Tom Hicks and George Gillett - "they don't drink in my local" he said of the men who live in Texas and Colorado respectively.
However, he believes the club will benefit as they attempt to close the gap on Manchester United and Chelsea.
"For the good of the club it had to be done," he said. "David Moores I know very well has only one interest apart from his missus and his kid and that is Liverpool football club.
"He obviously saw that what he can put in is not enough for them to be challenging at the top and that's what he wants. He's done what he's done for the good of the club."
With further investment in the transfer market, Nicol now believes Liverpool are close to challenging for their first Premiership title.
"I think they're probably three, maybe four, players away," he said.

100% agree, and so does Rafa which is why he will be offsky at the end of the season.Originally posted by Red_Al_77 View PostMisleading. Fowler has scored three penalties and two other goals in an irrelevant game.
Fowler will score goals but other strikers offer more now. Fowler is a 3rd or 4th striker and he isn't going to get any quicker or more mobile no matter how many games he plays. The injuries, advancing years and not looking after himself have taken their toll. Legend for the club and simply the best striker I've ever seen when he was at his peak...but his time has gone.
Is and always will be a legend but unfortunately never recovered from those bad injuries.

From the BBC:
Agent plays down Fowler US switch
Robbie Fowler could be set to wrap himself in Old Glory
Robbie Fowler's agent has played down reports linking the Liverpool striker with a move to the United States.
Fowler, 31, is out of contract in the summer and New England Revolution coach Steve Nicol says he has spoken to the former England frontman about a move.
But Fowler's agent George Scott told BBC Radio Five Live: "He has not had a conversation with Steve and I don't think they could afford him anyway.
"If he was to think about moving, Qatar or Dubai could be an option."
Fowler's hopes of extending his Anfield career have been threatened by the arrival of Andriy Voronin from Bayer Leverkusen.

Interesting that Robbie seems to prefer Qatar and Dubai to the US...Just when I discovered the meaning of life, they changed it
