if they offer something near 8-10 million we'd be daft to turn it own. i doubt that this story is true though.

JAR is a good left sided midfielder, useless as a defender & your right he is replacable

Do we have adequate cover though. I mean, i know we have Aurelio and Warnock who also play there. But is Warnock really good enough? and its early days for Aurelio, rumour has it he is injury prone, and he has never played in the EPL before.
Who else would be available to bring in? could argue Gallas as was mentioned by Tom, but i dont think he likes playing left full. Bridge is a solid enough player though.

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

I think people are being harsh on Riise, he massively improved last season and our back four only looked so comfortable when all four were in it, and that includes Riise.

So he had a sh*t game last night? So what? He performed to a high level for well over 90% of the games he played in last season and seems to improve each season (particularly under Rafa). He might be very one footed and prone to the occasional hoof, but he's also pretty much the only goal threat we have in defence. Chelsea bagged 17 goals from defence alone last season, losing Riise would be more of a setback than people are think.

Anything over 10 and we'd be laughing - wont happen though.

i'll tell you what we should do bazza, we should sell them JAR and buy ashley cole. the price would be cheaper for us than the chavs.

seriously though if a bid to good to turn down came in for him then i don't see a problem in him being sold.

the story is quite obviously bollocks IMHO though.

I agree mate, i think Riise is underated. Although he is a bit slow for a left full, as was proven last night.
But yes records prove last season, we were sounder defensively when Riise was in the team.

Yeah, cant see any truth in it myself Kurt, if it was true, i would be sad to see him go, all them Riise thunderbolts

It may have escaped your memory but last season we were most definitely best defensibly when JAR played at LB. So how can you say he is useless as a defender ?
"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."

                          Chelsea in for Riise?

Chelsea consider Liverpool bid Thu, Aug 10 2006 17:32
Chelsea are considering Liverpool's John Arne Riise as an alternative if Arsenal reject their £20million bid for Ashley Cole.
Rumours are surfacing in London that Jose Mourinho has placed the Norwegian next on his list of left-sided defensive targets as the capital's big two wrangle over the price-tag for the England star.
Riise was impressive in last season's Champions' League clashes against the Stamford Bridge club and can provide an attacking threat down the flank - something the Blues coach identified in Cole.

Liverpool would be unwilling to sell unless Rafael Benitez can snap up a quick replacement from his Spanish contacts - but Riise's attacking instincts have left the Anfield back four, Sami Hyypia in particular, exposed during the pre-season.

Benitez could be tempted to part with the Norwegian, a firm favourite with the fans and previous management team, but not indispensable to the current coach - if the price is right and Chelsea can certainly afford his personal demands.
