Do the Mancs have a psychological/mental hold over us?

I for one am SICK of conceding last minute winners to the Scum.
    • The FA Cup game in the late 90s, when we led for 88 minutes through an Owen goal. Not one, but TWO last minute goals.
    • Rio Ferdinand's wholly undeserved 90th minute winner at their place last season.
    • And finally, yesterday.

Why does this happen so often? Why is it always so inevitable? As Giggs stepped up to take that free-kick yesterday, I turned away and didn't watch. I knew what was coming.

Are we gutless? Do we have some kind of inferiority complex on the pitch?

When was the last time we scored a last minute winner against them?

A few years ago when spud lobbed Barthez in the last minute in front of the stretford end and we won 1-0. It was when Thommo was in charge and Ged was ill. I also remember spud scoring a peno with about 5 mins to go at Old Toilet about 3 years ago.

We can do it as has been proved in the past. They've just had the rub of the green recently though.

I know what you mean mate. I'm just sick and tired of these f****** last-minute goals by the filth! When Giggs stood over the ball I knew this was going to be a goal. Just bloody knew it!

How this ****e happens in an injury time is beyond me! I rather see us getting beat 7-0 than 1-0 in the last minute!

Just can't believe that we are focused for 89 minutes and than lose our concentration and BANG, we lose a match! It's sickening! If I hear one more Scum supporter claiming that the Scum deserved that win, I'm going to start shooting people.

EDIT: I also think Scum is the only team in the Premiership that doesn't fear us...

        Yep fair points.

I do think we lack that mental edge when playing them, though. As well as the last minute winners, we've gifted them so many goals over the years what with Dudek's three howlers at Anfield in three consecutive seasons (Forlan, Giggs and Rooney), Jamo's calamities in the late 90s and Carra's two own goals. The only goal I remember them gift-wrapping for us was when Barthez ****ed up for an Owen goal at Anfield when we beat them 3-1 (the last league win against them? 2001?).

        It sickens me.

unfortunately neither were as late as you remember murphys lob was with about 5 minutes to go but not last minute, and the pen was still with about half hour to go.

The 5 minute to go one was late enough to be even sweeter than the norm but then cantona's was 5 minutes to go in the cup final as well!!

That was the last league win against them at Anfield but we have beaten them in the league since then. The last time was in Geds last season. 1-0 Danny Murphy penalty in the last 5 minutes. What was even more shocking about that was that Mike Riley awarded the penalty.

One of the main reasons why utd can score in the last minute on a regular basis, is down to the quality through out there sqaud. Their last 2 wins have been down to the brilliance of ronaldo, never doubting his ability right upto the final min. Utd have always had (since the inception of the perm...at least) that little bit of quality to score in the last min...even if the player/club has been playing badly...Liverpool had this all throughout the 70's and 80's and where well renound for it.

My feeling is you make you own luck in football and the reason why championship winning teams, often win in the final min, even when playing badly, is down to the fact that they are championship winning sides, with quality packed throughout there side.
Just look at the face: it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Like a drunk who's lost a bet.

That Murphy pen wasnt that late, it was midway through second half, the one where he lobbed Barthez was late tho.

I don't think it's a case of a psychological thing, it's just that, like it or not, Man Utd have been the best team around for the last 10-15 years. They keep on going, even when they've been played off the park like yesterday.

As soon as he gave that free kick a goal was ****ing depressingly obvious.

Aye, I meant last home win against them in the league. I couldn't possibly forget those great wins at OT.

I remember it being late on but I didn't realise that it was as much as 5 mins to go. I thought that penalty one was later than half an hour to go but am probably wrong.

Still it shows that we have had the ability to hit them where it hurts in the past so I'm sure we can do it in the future. Those ****ers have just had the rub of the green recently. It'll make it all the sweeter for us when we beat them next time out.

Wasn't it just. I got the same horrible vibes of the late 90s when James kept goal for us. Every time they got a free kick on the right hand side (our left) for Beckham to swing one in, you just knew they'd score. I got the same, HORRIBLE vibes yesterday and turned my back. I could've thrown up on the spot.

There was a period of about 2 years with James in goal that I felt that way whenever we conceded a corner!

Especially, for some reason, when we were playing Coventry City. I just got visions of Dion Dublin heading it in. Invariably he did.

However, the yesterday's defeat wasn't the worst. I remember expecting A LOT from the time they played us at Anfield, but Dudek fcuked up and Forlan got a brace.

Also I remember being 1-2 (or was it 0-1?)behind when Heskey (in an injury time) had an open goal, but tripped. Was depressed for almost a month after that!

So all in all, it still is painful to lose against the filth in the last minute of the game, but we played them off the park! It was like playing against a conference side sometimes. And this team is supposed to be a Premiership champion? Oh please, that's embarrassing! People will laugh at the Premiership.

Hope we beat them in the CL if we meet!
