After Kevin Keegan left Liverpool, Paisley broke the English transfer record to bring Kenny Dalglish to the club. We replaced a top class player, with an even better one.
Since Owen left Liverpool, not one player has matched his scoring record. I don't want him back, I think it's too much of a risk, but he was our top scorer from 1998 to 2004, averaging a goal every other game, and finding someone to do that consistently will not come cheap.
This isn't spending money for the sake of it; it's spending money to ensure that we have a player with the ability to convert pressure like we created yesterday (and numerous times this season) into goals.

He's done nothing wrong. See my post above.
