new posts

Can't be bothered quoting all the posts to which this refers but you'll know anyway.

    A) The increase in the number of jealous attacks on Liverpool's squad of players bodes well. Other teams fans also recognise the possible progress we can make this season.

    B) That really was a camp chant. How about something to go along to the tune of the Kiss classic 'I Wanna Rock And Roll All Night'. The dutch love 'em (not to be confused with 'Dutch Oven').

Like the way he lets them know that Feyenoord are bigger than Newcastle

PRESS: What's does it mean joining a club like Liverpool?

KUYT: I think Liverpool is a fantastic club, a very big club, for me it is a dream to play for a club like Liverpool.

PRESS: You've been linked with a move to the Premiership in each summer of the last three years. How close did that come to happening in the past then?

KUYT: There were a few clubs who wanted me in the Premier League but I think it's all about feeling and Liverpool gave me the best feeling about it. I really want to play for this club.

PRESS: In the past I guess you didn't know if Liverpool would come in for you so it was just a case of waiting to see what happened, was it?

KUYT: Yeh. I said in Holland I only want to leave the club for a bigger club and I think Liverpool is a fantastic club with a fantastic history.

PRESS: It seemed to have dragged on all summer though because we've heard about Liverpool's interest for quite a while. Did you think was it ever going to happen this summer?

KUYT: Yeh it took quite a while but the guys from Liverpool gave me the trust that it would all come together so I'm very happy I'm here and I can't wait to play.

PRESS: But all the talk is that you've been brought here as a 15 to 20 goal a season man so that's a fair but of pressure already isn't it?

KUYT: No. I'm getting used to pressure. It's no problem for me. The only thing that is important is that the team is going to win. It's not so important how many goals I score.

PRESS: Do you see yourself though as a potential 15 to 20 goals a season man in the Premiership?

KUYT: I know I can score goals. I also scored a lot of goals with Feyenoord. I expect to score a lot of goals here. I'm not a player who says I'm going to score 15 or 20 times. I'm a player who says I want to win trophies and for me that is the most important thing.

PRESS: I suppose the first thing is to get a regular start when you look at the competition for places here among the strikers?

KUYT: Yeh I can't wait to play in my first official match.

PRESS: Is he cleared to play this weekend Rafa?

RAFA: I don't know now. We are waiting [for international clearance].

PRESS: When we look at Dutch strikers in the Premiership Dirk, I suppose Ruud van Nistelrooy has set the benchmark. Do you think you can go some way to emulating what he achieved in English football?

KUYT: Ruud is an idol of mine. I think he has had a fantastic career so far. It would be great if I had the same career what he has had here in England.

PRESS: How excited then are you about getting into the Premiership?

        KUYT: Very.

PRESS: Do you think it suits your game?

KUYT: It's very exciting. I think it's the best league in the world so I can't wait to start.

PRESS: Do you think then that the style of play in the Premiership will suit you?

KUYT: Yeh. I think that I can do well in this competition. I like to see the matches every week, so it's now going to happen that I play myself in the Premier League.

PRESS: Did you follow English quite a bit when you were a lad? Was there any team you followed at all?

KUYT: Yeh. English football in Holland is very famous. Every weekend almost all the matches are live so I watched a lot of English football.

PRESS: Was there a team in particular that you followed?

KUYT: No... errr.... (pauses) I can say Liverpool (everyone laughs). But I know Liverpool were interested in me for a long time so it gave me a special feeling [towards Liverpool] but I also watched the Dutch players who are playing in the international team who play in the Premier League.

PRESS: When you look at this Liverpool squad that you have joined, what do you think could be achieved this season?

KUYT: I think we have a very good squad. They beat Chelsea, I have seen that match. I think we have a very good team so we'll see what happens. But we are very good.

PRESS: You've come here to win trophies though, obviously the Premiership is the big aim for you isn't it?

KUYT: Yeh. It would be a dream to win the Premier League.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

        * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs
