Mascherano

Looked tenacious and always hassling the opposition. His timing was superb and, particularly in the first half, looked like he was more than comfortable with the ball once he had won it.

I think we have pulled a fast one with Mascherano and have bought an excellent prospect, but for us to start getting carried away with it would be rash. Lets see how he beds in when he gets a run of games under his belt before we start building him up.

I don't think DJS is comparing them in terms of stature as an LFC player - in fact I know he isn't. He's clearly talking about the type of player he is.

He looked good again yesterday and seems to be getting the pace of the game quite quickly. There must have been something going on at West Ham for him not to have been playing.

Momo's days are numbered if mascerano adapts and grows unless momo is prepared to spend time and the bench and develop his passing game, a one dimensional central midfielder will limit us if we are ever to push for the title. That is unless we sell alonso in the summer. For me I'd love to see this formation next year

If we need to attack then one of mascherano and alonso can be replaced with Gerrard and a second striker bought in (Kyut/Crouch).

The challenge is the same this summer as it was the last (hence the ?marks over certain players). Just to remind us all:

Have we got the bottle to spend big on Alves or a similar right sided player?
Will we continue to have faith in Harry Kewell's fitness?
Can we afford and indeed attract a superstar striker to anfield?

At worst we are 3 players away from competing. I honestly believe that. Defensively we are as good as it gets. Mascerano is a world class addition to an already strong central midfield. Our limited width, poor creativity and lacklusture finishing has cost us again this season.

So no more goalkeepers, no more central defenders nor central midfielders, we can hold back on left back as aurellio is improving all the time & riise is at least capable, arberelo is looking promising at right back and finnan still has a season or two left in him. 4-5 months from now we'll all know if Rafa can solve what has been the liverpool enigma for the last 7 or 8 seasons.
