J Pennant Appreciation

It wasn't the worlds greatest cross but the timing of it was excellent. Pennant has started being more intelligent with the timing of his balls, and in this case he passed it to Crouch when he had Toure isolated and could take the only defender between him and goal out of the game with one touch. It's not the greatest thing in the world but you only asked for anything of note.Originally posted by The Glove View PostWhich Crouch had to use superb skill to control and make the opening for?
He had a good game. He gave our midfield a good shape and often occupied two Arsenal players. In a 4-5-1 formation that is important, it's not something you can highlight with a specific instance, but it is key to winning the game.
I would agree with the assessment that he is currently not good enough to be assured a first team berth next year but his improvement recently has shown him to be a very useful squad player who has a lot to offer."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

This is from the match report in the Echo which really sums him up.
'Jermaine Pennant claimed 10 assists this season in the matchday programme (I’d only noted nine, but let’s not split hairs) and added one more to his tally on Saturday. But still the notion persists that his all-round game is unsatisfactory.
All too often he lost possession, put in lightweight tackles and looked to cross when a run and shot might have been more productive.'Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.

Count me out as well. Ill credit the lad for the odd good game. But i was genuinely surprised at how crap he was to start with. Lightweight and not nearly as quick as i thought. He has good skill and i think he can cross, but compare him to joe cole, robben, ronaldo, giggs, rosicky, hleb - hes not in the same league as any of these players - how many has he scored? 1 or 2? Hes not effective enough.
He has started to turn it around but hes got a long way to go and i think youre praise is disproportionate to his achievements. I get so frustrated with garcia - but i cut him more slack because IMO, while he regularly plays woefully - he equally as regularly comes up with key contibutions.

i think he's more john legend than lionel richie meself like
made the difference today though. he's alright. could get better in that position but he's useful to have around"At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques"

He doesn't just need to score more, he needs to start posing some kind of goal threat for a start. His game has improved loads and it's great to see, but he offers even less of a goal threat than Carra.Originally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostNext season will be telling.
He's had a year to get the hang of it, and has gotten better after a mediocre start. There'll likely be some new attacking players signed in the summer so he'll need to kick on.
Think he needs to score more too. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

As long as he keeps supplying the strikers i`m happy.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostHe doesn't just need to score more, he needs to start posing some kind of goal threat for a start. His game has improved loads and it's great to see, but he offers even less of a goal threat than Carra.

i'll go along with that, I think his improvement over the season has earned him at least another years stay with us, still think we should bring in another right winger and use him as back up but credit to him for the last few months. Still think he needs to shut his mouth when it comes to england tho, it doesn't do him any favours.Thomas Hicks Senior
