Just noticed that the stories linking Riise with the chavs are becoming more common of late, today the star are claiming £15m are we really to believe these rumours?. Honestly if I was asked to pick between Ashley Cole and John Arne Riise, without being biased, it would have to be JAR for me. I just love the guy and despite his £15m pricetag, I would be devestated to see him playing for the chavs, he has become somewhat of a cult hero in my eyes, and it could be argued he is only hitting his prime now at 26. Personally, I would tell the chavs to **** right off, and even if they were serious, surely they would be prepared to up their offer if they are willing to go to £23m for Ashley overated Cole.

Riise is it true?
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

We are all entitled to our opinions mateOriginally posted by RyanNo, it's not true.
And John Arne Riise is not a better left back than Ashley Cole.
Statistically im not sure of the stats for each player say last season, maybe it is his thunderbold shots that I like, I'd just hate to see him leave. But iI still think Ashley Cole is way overated.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

Agreed - Cole is extremely over-rated. Very one-footed and looks OK if he's linking with the midfield up the left wing, but can't defend for toffee. As they've already got basically an identical palyer in Wayne Bridge - the description fits him 100% too - I can't see why the Chavs are after himOriginally posted by bazza76We are all entitled to our opinions mate

Wayne Bridge has been rubbish for two seasons. He has also started picking up injuries, not to mention the fact he is about a third of the player Cole is.Originally posted by RedspinAgreed - Cole is extremely over-rated. Ashley Cole has developed into a great defender. He is a strong tackler and has phenomenal recovery speed, his positioning is now also much better. His big weakness for me is that he occasionally dives in, but in general he has the pace to recover. He is very one footed but at full back I don't see this as a huge weakness."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

26 yr old 6 foot 1 in full back who scores more than his fair share of goals for a left full who is not even in his prime yet, and formed part of one of best defensive backlines in world football last season? IMHO he is worth more than a mere £5mOriginally posted by scubykuntzTo be perfectly honest, if they offered us £15mil for JAR I'd snap their hand off. I like JAR as much as the next guy, but I'd put his normal market value as nearer £5mil.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

He may not be the best defenderin the world......but that back 5 look great as a unit. Its interesting that Aurelio hasnt played as left back for us yet!Originally posted by bazza7626 yr old 6 foot 1 in full back who scores more than his fair share of goals for a left full who is not even in his prime yet, and formed part of one of best defensive backlines in world football last season? Its really difficult to say how much exactly he is worth. We were being priced up to £12m for an unproven (in the Premiership) for a right full back, who possibly doesnt score as much as Riise.Originally posted by Charlie_BBazza, how much would you value him at? I would put him as around £7m, but it's only his versatility that makes him worth more than £6m IMO
I guess it depends really on the situation, who is after him and how much they want him. The Chavs could easily afford £15m as we know. But to anyone else, say, another of the European big guns like ourselves, if they really wanted him, up to £10m if our recent problems trying to sign Alves is anything to go by.Last edited by bazza76; 14-08-06, 12:12 PM.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

Well they were quoting 6.5 for Chimbonda.....and he may turn out to be a one season wonder.Originally posted by Charlie_BBazza, how much would you value him at? I would put him as around £7m, but it's only his versatility that makes him worth more than £6m IMO_____________________________________

I see him more as a right midfielder myself. Not sure what he will think of that though, as he wants to get into the Brazil side as a full back.Originally posted by red gHe may not be the best defenderin the world......but that back 5 look great as a unit.
