Bent's a good Premiership player. You'll notice I put "Premiership" in bold. We need more players who can perform in this league. Bent can. Is he worth £15m? No, not for me, but be honest every one, the reason you don't want him is primarily to do with him not being an overhyped big name.
He wouldn't be my first choice I'll admit, but if he's signed I wouldn't be disappointed either, far from it.I hate Polanski

No. I don't want him because he's ****e and is overhyped and overpriced simply because he's English.Originally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostBent's a good Premiership player. He is the fourth best english striker after Owen, Rooney and Crouch so I wouldn't be disappointed if we signed him but if we signed him then we would need to sign another striker because Bent as the only big striker signing would be to much of a gamble.Originally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostBent's a good Premiership player. According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Just think some have fallen foul of a kind of snobbery. These are - by and large - the same people who complained about the Crouch signing.I hate Polanski

As ever people write off anyone who isn't a big name or that doesn't do the business on CM5 or whatever. Bent is quite clearly a very useful player, his record for Charlton is excellent. In all truth if he played for a top 4 side, he'd be an England regular. At £12m to £15m he'd be a good piece of business. If we are to challenge for the title we need proven Premiership players, and Bent is that.
Eto'o is far & away my 1st choice but I'd not be dismayed at Bent coming. Villa i'm sure is a useful player but for me he'd have it all to prove. He's the latest talking horse, the next big thing from Europe. Well plenty have failed before, Van Der Vaart, Joaquin, Reyes etc. All massive reputations who've gone on to only disappoint. i'm not saying Villa won't turn out to be the player many think he is, but unlike many on here, I don't see it as a forgone conclusion either.AKA Heighway No9

Was about to say this myself! Ashton is a player that I rate highly indeed.

He would be a big gamble after being out injured over a year.Originally posted by greystoneslfc View Post
