They wont get that from what I've heard (from a relative who works very high up in Liverpool City Council)

Short of going back to the drawing board and re-applying for planning permission (2-3 year process including consultation etc..) which might not be approved we are stuck with a 61,000 top end capacity that might be expandable at a later date

I think you are correct staying within the Anfield area was probably a more sentimental decision than a financial one

Knowsley Council gave them a great offer many years back to build and part finance the building of a new stadium

Everton fans are going bananas at the prospect of moving to the outskirts and i would feel exactly the same if we were considering Kirkby, Speke or the likes. Those who say we're moving anyway so we might as well consider further away locations are forgetting how close to our old site we're moving to - just across the road literally NEXT DOOR and we'll still have an Anfield Road address because it will still be off Anfield Road + our old site will still be part of the match day experience because of the match day related developments that are going to be built on it. I consider our 'move' as more of a footprint adjustment.

In any case the Stanley Park site is not small - much bigger than our old site and would easily support an 80,000+ seater, i think sorting out infrastructure problems and car parking is just something we'll have to do and i'm sure we will find a solution to the problem. Liverpool FC - THIS IS ANFIELD - NOT THE OUTSKIRTS.

Even though I live 180 mile away, and it would be significantly more convenient to move it (for me),I totally agree.

Much has been made about the poor infrastructure around Anfield or rather the lack of one but in my experience of various great stadiums. Croke Park, The Millennium, The Old Wembley etc.its ALWAYS chaotic outside for car owners immediately after games.
I cant see any stadium in the world being that easy to get to and from that quickly given the size of the crowds these type of stadiums regularly house. If you built the New Anfield right at the end of the M62 there will still be a massive queue to get onto it.

              M6/M62 would be even better.

**** it, the M4/M5 interchange would be perfect

No it is but as i live in Northwich feel free to rip it. As a town its worse than Widnes but at least it ain't Runcorn.

As an aside you couldn't tell me why they closed the golf club could you? Its bugged me for the last couple of years.

You mean St Michaels? It was closed because it was environmentally dangerous! They were going to close it down and build on it - but those plans have been shelved.

                      The new stadium?

Will it still be 60 000? Just wondering. Just cant seem to find any new information about it.

Thats maybe because they haven't released the new plans yet

i think modifications would be a better name for it.

Well, Hicks himself has said "new plans" a number of times and "new design". We really are just going to have to wait and see.

It might be 61k with expansion, or it might be more now. Nobody will know until 1) they release the plans or 2) a leak comes out and spill the beans. Now that HKS (or Ryder HKS, not sure which or both) are onboard, you can't really judge.

We might start building something that doesn't fit the current planing permission then re-apply when building starts. Lots of possibilities.
