I don't think the magical 20/20 player really exists - apart from the genuine WC player (i.e. Henry and Ronaldo are probably the only 2 of recent years to get close to 20 goals, 20 assists)

However, for a team to really go for the title they need in the wide positions a 10/10 () player or two, someone who can create but importantly finish as well, such as the players MrM has mentioned.

If I were a fullback up against Pennant, I'd show him inside at every opportunity because you know the chances are it'll come to nothing.

Is it completely unreasonable to ask for a winger that could do both once in a while? Find me a consistently starting winger for any of the even just half-decent premiership sides that is as little of a goal threat as Pennant.

Really, not bashing the lad at all, just being realistic, it is an area of his game he has to work very hard on, and I bet if anyone can find any interviews he's ever given he'd probably say so himself......

Did you see the game last night?.... other than a long range effort from Gerrard it was only the work of Pennant that made me think we'd score.... He was the best attacking force on the field.

Pennant hasn't delivered against the best teams yet. I know that he scored against Chelsea but that's about all he has done when he played against the top four.

          He isn't England quality yet.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I'm trying to remember who we played recently and their fullback did show Pennant the inside and he toe poked it to the back post and Kuyt got on the end of it and GOAL and another assist for Pennant But I do know what you mean, he is far more comfortable going to the by-line and crossing but remember, it is his first season with us and he's been working with Steve Bruce who knows nothin about nothin IMO.

The problem with pennant is that alot of the time he delays his pass, it allows the defenders to get settled and comes to nothing. You will probably point out that he never done that for his assists and thats my point he does it too often. His first touch needs improving aswell.

agree with you but what he is doing, he's doing well IMO.

He's still playing with not enough confidence for me. That's why he hesitates when he could have opted for an early pass. Apart from that, I think that he's got a great short passing game.

Sorry, shouldn't have mentionned Owen here. I'm having a bad bad day today.

Since he scored that goal against Chelsea he has improved a lot and his confidence is high. I have to be fair as I gave him some stick earlier in the season so its only right to praise him when he plays well, and he has played well in recent weeks. Having said that I'm still not totally convinced he is really good enough to be more than a squad player, but if he keeps on improving then who knows.

Overall he has been better than I hoped.
