I dont think anyone is claiming he's the finished article by any means, and can appreciate some criticism of his first touch & delaying passes to an extent, but all im asking is to give the lad credit for his improvement. People were pulling thier hair out at the start of the season claiming he was an awful signing but he is proving them wrong one game at a time.

        That's fair enough.

JERMAINE PENNANT hopes he’s starting to live up to the high standards set by Rafa Benitez following another impressive home performance last night.

Pennant shone in the 2-0 win over Middlesbrough which put the Reds three points away from confirming a top four position.

The right winger has enjoyed a gradual improvement since the turn of the year, but Benitez said last week the 24-year-old must still learn more about what it takes to succeed at a big club.

Pennant feels he’s now heading in the right direction.

          Story continues

“I’m in good form at the moment, but that’s as part of the team isn’t it?” said Pennant. “When the team’s performing it’s easier to play well yourself. Your best comes out then and at the moment I’m really enjoying my football.

“It’s pleasing to have found a consistency level. That will be pleasing to the manager and the rest of the boys as well.

“You want to do a good job and then you get rewarded for it. I feel I’m having an impact on the games.

“I know the standards expected at Liverpool and I’ve known that since the first day I came here. Every day is a learning curve for me and the way we play football here is great for me.

“I feel we’ve been playing well and being part of this team helps me get better and improves my confidence. Last night’s game showed how confident I am out there now.

“We’ve a good cushion now for the Champions League spot and we know with one more win, we’re safe.”
At a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly

            I dare you.
If Ian Callaghan can score less than 70 goals for us in over 850 appearances and deservedly be an absolute legend, then surely Pennant can score the little he does and just be a good squad player?

I normally do too..... came down to a choice of which days I could take off work. The Champions League games won! I'd be happy to see Pennant play right side if he performs as he has for the last month.... I think he looks really confident on the ball now and is a regular threat.

I agree he wouldn't get in Man U's team but then what other player in the world would at the moment? As for Chelsea they don't tend to use wide players as much this season. I think he's good enough for Arsenals team now, not that they would probably take the chance of buying him back.

Surely the left of midfield is a much greater concern...

[QUOTE=Abro100;398332]The problem with pennant is that alot of the time he delays his pass, it allows the defenders to get settled and comes to nothing. QUOTE]

To be fair, at times he has to wait for the players to get into the box before crossing...

Pennant has played his best games against teams that are ****e. He also does not have a left foot. For a footballer to not be able to even atempt to kick with his other foot is disgraceful. To many times this season we have seen Pennant beat a man only to have to try and beat hom again because the ball is the wrong side. That is pathetic.

                        Yes.

Well, he's not pathetic, he's okay, but his one-footedness is, in my opinion, totally pathetic for a professional footballer.

nice goal he got against Barca, wasn't it
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                          * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

Not being able to kick with both feet is pathetic but atleast Riise scores every now and then and you know what you are getting.
