my comment was tongue in cheek, i know it can't be fixed but the results are ridiculous.Originally posted by rushscored4 View PostI agree but there are about 600 Premiership players eligible to vote in the PFA awards so I can't see how it could be fixed. Presumably at the time they voted (beginning of 2007) the Mancs were having a purple patch.
your theory is probably what happened. i don't think scholes, rio, or evra should have been included. I bet the players don't take this very seriously at all, especially mid season when their focus should be on their own team, which could explain how the team of the year includes so many dodgy selections

United might be the best team in the league this season (the league table never lies) but they do not have the best defence or indeed the best individual defenders. How can Van Der Sar be deemed better than Reina or Cech who even at Xmas had better records than the big Dutchman? How could Ferdinand be considered better than Carra or John Terry? Or Neville better than Finnan although that could be considered looking through red-tinted glasses! I'll go along with Vidic but at the time the votes were cast I would have put at least two other left backs ahead of Evra. However, they're both from unfashionable 'smaller' teams (Baines at Wigan and Taylor at Portsmouth) and don't appear on TV as much
I can't argue with Ronaldo, Scholes or even Giggs but I'm surprised Amplard wasn't in there not for his ability but because he always seems to do well in these 'buddy' votes. I think most people would have put Drogba in their teams but I would have had McCarthy of Blackburn or Peter Crouch (based on his England performances in 2006 as well as for Liverpool) ahead of Berbatov.
It's all about opinions, eh?
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

your assessment is spot on there mate, i agree with all of it
there are some questionable selections, but the inclusion of neville, evra, and van der sar make this squad a joke. Cech has been brilliant again and Reina has been excellant all season. The stance of the general public toward Lumptard has changed since the world cup, everyone has seemed to realise what an overrated player he is, and the way he conducts himself on the pitch will win him few friends i reckon. Scholes or Giggs should have been subbed out for Essien who has been a monster this season, playing multiple positions and keeping the chavs title hopes alive by himself at times. taylor should have been in there at LB, he's scored some quality goals and brings his best every game. berbatov is great to watch, very smooth, but he is not a natural finisher, never has been, and he wastes alot of chances. mccarthy should have got the nod there, he's a great player and has scored some important goals for bburn
i could go on and on with this team but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter does it?
how did gary neville get in this team tho, honestly

All Manc fans I know say Evra is better than Heinze. He's certainly in better form. I would compare his career to Agger's at LFC. Poor at first, but then class the next season.
How funny would it be if the Chavs cleaned up on the domestic front, we won the CL and the Mancs won **** all! And yet the mancs had 8 in team of the year
:bird:
My XI
Foster
Finnan
Vidic
Carvalho
Evra
