    Depends, doesnt it?

We're doing this so we can compete with United, in terms of matchday revenues.

By 2012, they might have expanded their ground to 100,000.

So by then, 80,000 will still mean we're playing catchup.

But at OT about 20000 of them seats are in the sky where you can barely see the players on the pitch

        What difference does that make?

They'll still be taking money when they sell them.

I'm talking in terms of the stadium being a decent place for the fans to be in which seems to be the focus of G&T

The focus of G&H will be generating revenue, first and foremost.

                80,000 is more than enough.

                  From which point of view?

If we're trying to match United's revenues and their ground is 25% bigger than ours, then no, 80,000 wouldnt be enough, in that respect.

                    100,000 is 20% more than 80,000.
                    Oh I don't know.

I don't think United can redevelop their ground further than what they are getting now. Can someone confirm that ?

I don't see why not. The 'main' stand is about half the size of the others.

Have heard they can up to 92K.

But let's face it DJS, 80k is a lot better than 61
                          3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Ok got that from wikipedia. (Old Trafford)

The ground's most recent expansion saw the addition of around 8,000 seats by "filling-in" the second tier of the north-west and north-east quadrants of the ground. The South Stand remains the only single-tiered stand, its development hindered by a railway line located directly behind it. Although the line could be built over, at least fifty residential properties would have to be demolished for any expansion to be possible, making improvements to the other stands the cheaper option. Further development, taking the capacity to 96,000, would require this expensive house demolition and engineering
It wouldn't be an easy thing for them to redevelop the stadium as from now, whereas we would include plans to increase capacity further from our to be existing 80,000 stadium.

but eth also has a valid point, G & T will want to give the fans the best he can give them, and is very interested in fan comfort. He wants the best possible stadium for the fans and everything they want in it.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                                * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs
