Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

No, 80,000 is 20% smaller than 100,000. 100,000 is 25% larger than 80,000.Originally posted by DJS View PostNo it isnt.
100,000 is 20,000 bigger than 80,000.
20,000 is 25% of 80,000.
In each case the second figure is the base for the percentage..

I'm sure they do. But they're businessmen.Originally posted by bazza76 View Postbut eth also has a valid point, G & T will want to give the fans the best he can give them, and is very interested in fan comfort. He wants the best possible stadium for the fans and everything they want in it.
They'll do whatever they feel will generate the most revenue. Obviously keeping fans happy and comfortable will be a part of that, but their priority will always be the revenues.

We're being pedantic now...
100,000 is 25% bigger than 80,000, meaning that if they're at 100k and we're at 80k, their ground will be 25% bigger than ours...which is what i said.

Actually, at risk of being pedantic, I think we've been pedantic for some time but I can see we're basically agreed on the important matters (i.e. the percentages).Originally posted by DJS View Post

Didn't Gillett say they were looking at the Arsenal figures and they are the ones to match. Arsenal make more on match days than the Scum with only 60,000 capacity. It is how you do it all. If we got 80,000 and then put a good amount of boxes in we would make more. I am confident we will make more than the scum on match days.Originally posted by DJS View PostDepends, doesnt it?
We're doing this so we can compete with United, in terms of matchday revenues.
By 2012, they might have expanded their ground to 100,000.
So by then, 80,000 will still mean we're playing catchup.

I'm not sure if Arsenal do make more than United per matchday, i've not seen any figures.Originally posted by sonsofthedesert View PostDidn't Gillett say they were looking at the Arsenal figures and they are the ones to match. Obviously corporate hospitality would be a big thing, but then you're taking seats away from the real fans.
Bit of a catch 22.

Yeah but not many seats, take 1000 seats away from your average fans in an 80,000 capacity isn't a big deal. These seats pay a LOT more than us mere mortals.Originally posted by DJS View PostI'm not sure if Arsenal do make more than United per matchday, i've not seen any figures.
