We then drop points to a newly promoted side on the first day of the season whilst Man Utd are spunking all over Fulham and Chelsea look like they've got the strongest squad any league side has had for decades and decades.

Surely you can see why you piping up with 'we're gunna win the league' every five mins comes across as naively, some would say pathetically, optimistic.
My belief in our ability to win the league this season has not shattered because we stumbled on Saturday. If it was, that would be pathetic. The thing in question here is whether you think it's pathetic to suggest we will win the league this season. I don't think it is, 1st in the league is what I'm predicting and I'm sticking to it.

I think you're trying to create a comparison between Madrid and Chelsea, which is fundamentally where your argument fails, seeing as the philosophy of (Jose Mourinho) and Chelsea in the transfer market, is entirely different to that of Madrid.

You also appear to be saying that Madrid are an example of how not to buy players, again a rather limp argument considering their success in lifting La Liga titles and European Cups during their 'galactico period' was second to none.

You think signing 'big names' such as Zidane, Ronaldo and Figo was an error ?

            Their trophy cabinets suggest otherwise.

There's an awful lot more with your posts in this thread but it's getting late.

            Cheers,

            Jamo.

As for the other poster who said they were second to none during their galactico era...to a point they were but they, like Chelsea are doing now, started to buy to many "superstars" and what happened then?

I think it's what the majority believe(or hope!) but theres always one.Its the buying superstars like they're going out of fashion that'll do them.

I think our chances of winning or losing the league depend a lot on how Kuyt settles and on injuries.

While we have strengthened our midfield and wide options, the biggest change is up front. Bellamy and Kuyt have come in for Cisse and Morientes which is a huge step towards addressing our weakest area from last season. If Bellamy can weigh in with 10 - 15 goals that would more than cover the goals that we would have expected from Cisse. If Kuyt does turn out to be our 20+ goal a season striker that we all think he can be, that would make him 5 or 6 times more prolific than Morientes which could be the difference between winning and losing the league.

Injuries are injuries, if any team loses key players it will hurt them.
"The definition of insanity is not running into the same wall again and again; it's expecting a different result every time you do it."

The squad still needs a bit more "Quality"..... There is a massive void left by the departure of Didi and We also need quality cover for Finnan

can you please find a post of mine that states that were gonna win the league either naively or pathetically ,as you so kindly put it ?
surely you should spend a little more time actually reading a post before responding in that fashion ? i only respond to ryans in such a way because that is what he understands . hes a dumb **** trying to masquerade as an important poster ,weve all come across ****s like him before thats life.
you are right that chelsea have a very strong squad a nd they probably will win the league but its only probable not definite . and i would bet my life if man u or chelsea had gone to sheff utd they would not have spanked them . they might have won but so might we ,losing two important players doesnt help yet mr and mrs critical dont mention it strange
as for the strongest suad for decades and decades -i dont think so .and when we get to the end of the season i for one will be very surprised if they win more than one major trophy
im sorry if thats to cheery for some but never mind

I wouldn't say 'no' chance, but 'little', yes, I'd say so.
