No it's because he moves up the field and often assumes an advanced position and doesn't sit infront of the defence. Nobody is saying a holding mid. never gets forward.
Holding players are there to protect the defense so most of the time sit in front of the back 4. Hamann, Makalele, Carrick, Gilberto to name a few.
Momo plays further up the pitch and breaks up play there and is able to do so because of his ability to cover ground, strength and stamina.
We should not even be discussing this, Rafa has spoken of this countless times.Comment

No, not at all. btw I wouldn't class Gattuso as a holding mid as he gets forward quite a lot too. Vieira is never a DM either, I don't know why so many people label him as that he is bo to box. Anyway, Rafa has always stated that the only "holding" players in our squad are Xabi and Masch. one thing for definite is that momo is a defensive minded player as opposed to attacking, maybe not a 'holding midfielder' of your defenition but a defensive midfielder he definitely is.
