We totally out-played a very good Milan side (one which made Manchester United look like complete chumps, only a couple of weeks back), for 44 minutes, only to go in a (very lucky) goal down at half time.

We had a rough 10 minutes at the start of the 2nd half, but after that, played some good football, but as the game went on, we got more desperate, and HAD to go more attacking, thus opening up space for Milan to attack us.

This was always a very likely outcome, but they were changes that needed to be made, were we to have any chance of getting back into the game.

Rafa did no wrong tonight, IMO, and neither did the team.

The only thing we were lacking, was REAL quality up front, and I'm sure we'll address this issue come the summer.

I'm proud of Liverpool tonight, and I feel we were hard done to, but hey... that's football!

    We'll be back!

    Walk On.
    Good post

IMO we are lacking quality wide players and a striker that can finish. We created enough chances, but lacked quality in the end product. That is what we need to bring in during the off season.

We dominated the game, but didnt finish it off when we should have. It's as simple as that

Great post. Agree with everything you said, but it seems some fans are forgetting the players that got us to the final in the first place. (Rise, Gerrard etc.)

I agree. I'm just feeling a bit flat after that. I thought we deserved so much more.

Well said Phil very well said.
Liverpool will be back again stronger and better.
Now that the players know the pain of defeat, they will hurt enough to want to fight more too... Look at that effect it had on AC today.

The respect the Milan players gave to us during the match and at the end showed just how much we have closed that gap and how far we have come.

No tears from me, but I think we'll be making a couple more finals under Rafa.

I repost what I have just posted in the match thread here seems a more appropriate place for it:

                Do not be downhearted

defeat makes you stronger the pain of defeat will drive the players to new heights

I am old enough and fortunate to have seen all our euro finals, (and all our FA cup victories come to that) and while this one might hurt a little it does not hurt anywhere near as much as it would have done 2 years ago when we had not been in a European Cup Final for 20 years ( I mean THE European Cup Final)

You just know that with this team and management that there will be many more glory days and nights in the years to come

The pain of defeat will hurt for a short while...............my 13 year old son is in tears........ but it will pass

but when we challenge for the prem next season the pain of tonight will be forgotten

                Keep the Faith...............YNWA
Lawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"

Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"

Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

                  Hi Owen

I thought we were the better side tonight, But I don't think " Rafa did no wrong tonight, (team selection, tactics and substitutions were all spot on)"

He DID get the team wrong imho:

Pennant and Bolo starting (I would have started SG on the right, Kewell on the left, Kuyt and Crouch up front).

Tactics were right in general keep it tight for 1st half, but what he did get wrong was he waited too long to bring Crouch on.

Pennant tried hard and got into decent positions, but his final ball was continually awful. I don't like Bellers but even I'd have brought him on to test Milan's ageing legs.

The one thing I hope for is that Rafa learns to be braver than this. But he WILL have more quality next year to choose from.

                  Roll on next season.

it was evident that we really ****ing do need wingers and strikers, and that stevie should always play in the middle!!!
Id not be sad if pennant, zenden, kuyt, xabi, and bellamy have played their last game for us. we need better, we really do.

I doubt that pennant, xabi and kuyt have played there last game. Pennant played a great game tonight, along with Kuyt and Xabi.

Bellamy didnt even get a ****ing chance to play. He would have troubled milan more than the useless kuyt.

We must NEVER EVER miss out on such a golden opportunity to win a major trophy again. This was there for the taking - we just were'nt good enough or brave enough.

I'm so proud of our lads tonight: we were easily the better side, it was so evident Milan were there for the taking, but once again our lack of quality finishers on the pitch cost us.

We need to learn from this, buy quality strikers, and be braver in our attacking selections.

We stole it from them 2 years ago, they stole it from us tonight.

If we buy well in the summer we'll be there again: I can feel it.
