I'm 27 and not that i'm saying no, but football is different these days.

In years gone by, it was far more cyclical and you'd have different teams winning in different decades. Nowadays though, there doesnt seem like any way of breaking into the upper echelons other than if some mad billionaire buys you and backs you to the hilt. In fact, that was even the case, albeit to a lesser monetary degree, with Blackburn in 1995, with the late Jack Walker. Blackburn were the only side to break the Arsenal/Man Utd dominance of that era, and even they only managed it do it surreal spending.

But i remember not that long ago, Norwich City were involved in the title race with Man Utd and although they didnt win it, they ended up having a decent UEFA Cup campaign the following season.

Back in the late 70s, Forest were on top of the world, following briefly by Villa in the 80s. Of course we had our domination too.

But these days, you wont get that kind of diversity and distribution of success. The cliche about the rich getting richer is spot on here, and i fail to see what can stop it turning into a case whereby NOBODY other than United or Chelsea (maybe Arsenal at a push when their kids develop and mature) would win the title in maybe as much as 20 years...unless they get the help of Joe Billionaire. Sounds radical. But i fear it's going more and more down that road. Very predictable sadly.

I think what he means is, that he thinks we will win the title within the next 10 years.

Just a hunch though - I could be wrong.

I used to think we'd never win the ashes again.

If england cricket team can manage that I'm sure LFC can snaffle the championship.

Im part of the generation that saw us dominate the game and certainly the league from the 70's.
Great teams though they were, the sad fact is that the game that is was then has gone and gone forever.
Its all about how much money you have to entice the best these days, absolutely nothing else matters, tradition, loyalty, even bringing youngsters thru seems to have no longevity to it, as though the kids have to be instant first team material in order to get a decent chance

I could waffle on here for ever, bottom line, no i dont think we will ever win the league again in my lifetime, but i'll never stop believing.

At 43 I have been blessed at seeing our great teams of the past dominate football both at home and abroad: Will happen again in my lifetime TO TRUE... We'll be back at the top of British Football and celebrating Number 19 within the next 2 seasons....

correct me if i'm wrong, as i was only born when we were picking up our 4th european cup, but haven't we always been famous for generally spending quite alot of cash, and outspending others

It was always quite proportionate to what our rivals were spending though.

We werent spending 3 times the amount of our nearest rivals...we were?

I think anyone outside the top 4 has no chance these days and it would probably take a decade of being within that group for any team not backed by Abramovich style billions to change that.

However I think the lesson from Spain where Real and Barca have had top sides for years but other teams have won the league and this season two other teams hav challenged is that it is possible to develop a team that can beat more expensively assembled ones. It takes time and patience to form a squad capable of doing so and the physical nature of the PL may make it harder but I firmly believe that if we continue to be reknown in Europe and attract first class managers that it is very possible.

People wrote off the chances of anyone but Chelsea winning the title last year, I think gaps of the size we need to make up can be bridged and tend to be bridged by only one or two really class players.

I'd love to really believe that only one or even two players could make up the 20 odd points, but i really cant see it.

We've bought to many 'final pieces' of the jigsaw before, only to see that another space has somehow manifested itself elsewhere...

one 20+ striker could easily get you 10 extra points
