    Guthrie to Bolton on loan

BOLTON Wanderers boss Sammy continued his team building today when he sealed a deal to sign Liverpool's highly-rated starlet, Danny Guthrie, on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old Shrewsbury-born midfield player is regarded as a future Premiership star by his Anfield bosses.

He spent the end of last season on loan with Championship side Southampton and impressed enough to earn a new contract with the Reds.

Lee, who knows Guthrie well from his days on the Liverpool backroom staff, is delighted to have added a rising star to his squad.

"Danny is a dynamic midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball,"

he said. "He has got a great engine and is a very good passer, who will suit our type of football.

"I know him well. He's got a good work ethic and he's a young player willing to listen."

Guthrie made his Liverpool debut last season in the Reds' 4-3 Carling Cup victory against Reading and made his league debut a month later against Portsmouth. His first senior start was against Galatasaray in the Champions League last December.

Guthrie passed a medical at the Reebok earlier this week and will put pen to paper when he returns from holiday.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Very surprised at that. Can't see him getting many games for them.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I think he will play most games - their midfield creaked badly with age last year. They don't have a great deal of money and without Big Sams reputation I think they will find it hard to bring in players.

I think the move looks ideal for all involved.

I'd imagine he's understudy to Nolan, what would be a shame is if Guthrie is forced to make fleeting appearances in the wide areas - he needs to play in the centre to see if he can make the grade in the Premiership.

& with Sammy in charge they may actually attempt to play a bit of football this year!! I think it's a great move .... I'd much rather see some of our fringe / young players on loan in the Premiership whereby you can judge whether they are likely to make the grade or not - very difficult from reserve, championship or Micky Mouse foreign league football

Doesn't Rafa insist on a "no play - then pay" clause for his loanees ?

he does for the lower leagues but would be surprised if bolton allowed this, after all its a step up for the lad.

                      Why?
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                      * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

I think there is a huge advantage in having youth players in the squad capable fo filling in. Look at player like Fletcher and Brown for United. they are not great players but they are loyal, relatively cheap to maintain and fill in whenever needed as they know the pattern of Uniteds play.

We need to get a few of our reserves to a similar point and it will put us back if we get them PL experience in our first team so loans seem the ideal solution to me.

I also don't see the point in selling him, not as if we would get much money for him. If he has a successful spell at Bolton his value should rise, as should his chances of playing for Liverpool.
