Scotland and England Utility playerBill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Many youth players have gone out on loan and most havent come back because they arent good enough and Guthrie will be the same, its a shame but the likes of Partridge, Potter, ALT, Ostember, Maxwell and the list goes onOriginally posted by bazza76 View PostWhy?When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

I suspect you see the point though. Neither are ever going to become first coice as they don't have that level of talent. In Fletchers case he has done very well for Scotland and he is a decent player - but he is far from the quality that would make Man United first team usually but because he has been bought up in the team he is a valuable squad member for them.Originally posted by Cacodemon View PostYet both Internationals..."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Maybe so, we will have to wait and see.Originally posted by thesilverfoxlfc View PostMany youth players have gone out on loan and most havent come back because they arent good enough and Guthrie will be the same, its a shame but the likes of Partridge, Potter, ALT, Ostember, Maxwell and the list goes on
I don't see the harm in loaning him out though, just in case he is one of the few that can make the step up, and even if he does reasonably well, it should inflate his value. Personally, I think it would be naive to just sell him now when we would get very little for him anyway.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

I didn't make my point clear - I understand the reasoning, keeping hold of two players that were brought through the youth set up, they know the club and what's expected of them inside out. I was merely pointing out that while neither are world-beaters, calling them **** is wide of the mark. Fact is they are above average Premiership performers, we can't say the same (yet) for our home grown players...
It would be fantastic for Guthrie to have a great year at Bolton and then continue to do a job for us in the years to come. Will it happen? Probably not.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

I think that Guthrie is of comparable natural ability to Fletcher to be honest. The question is whether he has the mental qualities and willingness to learn. I would point out I only said they were less than great.Originally posted by Cacodemon View PostI didn't make my point clear - I understand the reasoning, keeping hold of two players that were brought through the youth set up, they know the club and what's expected of them inside out. Augustyn, Speed, Teymourian, Campo, Faye & Nolan would be his competition for CM. Probably three positions and Faye played most of last season at CB. With the age of Campo and Speed to be considered I really think he has an excellent chance to play and if he can't get in that team then he will probably never make it."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Danny Guthrie has agreed to join Bolton
Highly-rated young Liverpool midfielder Danny Guthrie has agreed to join Premier League rivals Bolton on a season-long loan deal.
The 20-year-old playmaker made three appearances for the Reds last season, including a run-out in the Champions League.
Guthrie will complete the relevant paperwork when he returns from his summer holiday.
Wanderers boss Sammy Lee told the club's official website: "Danny is a dynamic midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball.
"He has a tremendous work-ethic and has got a great engine. He is a very good passer who will suit our type of football."
Guthrie joins fellow new arrivals Gavin McCann, Jlloyd Samuel, Gerald Cid, Blerim Dzemaili and Zoltan Harsanyi at the Reebok Stadium.
