Why do clubs constantly pay the money they do for him. Why did they (the scum) concede the same amount as us this year despite having far less protection in a more attacking team and having a worse goalkeeper? Ferdinand is world class and the first choice centre back in England. Carra looks well out of place on the international scene IMO.

Overpriced does not mean better. Nesta was cheaper than Rio. They conceeded the same as we did because of Vidic. Last season, with Rio in their team, they were conceeding 3-4 goals to teams like Boro. And because we conceeded more than we normally do due to bad form at the starting of the season.Originally posted by JimmytheJalopy View PostWhy do clubs constantly pay the money they do for him. Ferdinand is not world class. His partner Vidic is much better than him. Brown was selected ahead of Carragher and Smith ahead of Crouch says it all about first choice for England. Carra has never been given the chance he deserves at the international scene, he has only been used as a utility player. The only reason Ferdinand is first choice for England is for his ball carrying abilities.

I'm actually quite a positive chap thanks. I think you're gettin very confused, it is very easy to criticise certain players like Lampard and Ferdinand. However, ferdinand is a superb player, in 03/04???? when Arsenal won the league unbeaten, the Scum were top until Ferdinand got his ban and then they collapsed defensively with out him. Vidic has also looked out of place when he hasn't played. Ferdinand seems to be very assured on the ball and is the player that i would like to see Agger develop into. Ask a Scum fan what they think of Rio Ferdinand. They will point to the two Milan games when Vidic and Heinze were hopeless.Originally posted by akjs123 View PostOverpriced does not mean better. I know you'll criticise me for my post, but that doesn't bother me, his quality is undeniable.

Tell that to The TrampOriginally posted by Redlife View PostSo if you don't win the league on your first, second, or third goes, that's it? You never will?
Remember, we're only adding to the nonsense.
Walking a lonely road one night, Nasruddin saw riders approaching. His imagination ran riot: he saw himself robbed or killed, so he climbed a wall into a graveyard and hid. Puzzled at his behaviour, the riders, who were followers of the Mullah, followed. Finding him cowering behind a grave, they asked "Great Sage, why are you hiding here?". "It's more complicated than you think" he replied, "I'm here because of you - and you're here because of me"

Nice to know you support a drugged up defender . Bollocks that he missed it because he was too wrapped up in moving that day. What a friggin joke, that is his life and career. He knew he'd feel less wrath for not showing up than he would for a positive test. Glad to know he tops your list.Originally posted by Reds08 View PostOk, we don't finish comfortably behind chelsea and united because our players are worse, it's because...erm......oh:whatever:
Daniel Agger is NOT better than Rio Ferdinand.
Rio has 330 PL appearances and a grand total of 8 goals.
Agger has just 31 games and 2 goals.
Or if you'd like to compare recent stats, 2 goals this year vs Rio's 4 goals in the past 5 years.
Agger is a great defender, backs down from no one, and distributes as well.
Rio's a homophobe, drugged up muppet.Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

"constantly pay the money" surely he has only had two big money transfers and one of those was to Leeds and so adds little weight to any argument. If you mean wages thats fair enough I suppose.Originally posted by JimmytheJalopy View PostWhy do clubs constantly pay the money they do for him. United concede the same amout because teams are much more afraid of their attacking threat and play very defensive formations against them. Our problem has been that when this happens we struggle to break teams down consistantly. As a big team it is less likely to conceed once you go ahead as a lot of teams give up in the CL as they often bank on getting 0 points from their games against the big 4. If you don't finish a team off you will always be vulnerable.
Carra has hardly played as an international CB. Largely because Sven and McClaren have both rated Terry as the best of our defenders and have an obsession with playing a pacy defender beside him - hence playing an unfit (and frankly very uncomfortabe at international level) Ledley King ahead of him. A number of commentators I've heard from Spain and Italy have questioned why Carra is not in the England team - most saying he is the best English CB."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think your bald statement that Agger is the better player needs some rationale since that's the argument (now). In terms of who is the better player right now I don't see why age or the size of the transfer fee come into the equation.Originally posted by Redlife View PostAgger V. Ferdinand?
No contest. Agger is 6 years younger, already a better player, and he cost 1/5 of what did Ferdinand did.
Surely anyone who suggests otherwise is on a wind-up around here?
On ability right now, I'm not sure Ferdinand is quite as bad as many of us, including me, would like to believe.
Am I right in thinking he's faster than Agger? If so, that's certainly an advantage. He also plays in a defence which does not benefit from having top quality defensive midfielders in front, in a team that arguably plays more attacking football so tending to leave the defenders more isolated, especially given that their full-backs also often play further up the pitch than ours (I'm thinking primarily of Evra rather than Heinze on the left here).
I'm not saying I like Ferdinand or that I think he's great but when assessing his abilities, I do think it's important to remember though that he was a mainstay of a team that has just won the League. (I feel so unclean saying that
).
Obviously given the transfer fee and age then Agger has to be the better value. Other than that I think the case is at least arguable..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Carvalho for me is the best defender in the country. Closely followed by Terry and Carragher. And for what it's worth I genuinely believe that Agger is a better central defender than the crack head.Originally posted by Reds08 View PostNope. And I will be here all night now you have said that. The next person that tries to claim Agger is better than Ferdinand or Carvalho will be getting pulled up on it.:bird:

Vidic was ripped apart at Anfield and was torn a new ar$e hole in the San Siro. Agger is a better defender...no question about it.Originally posted by SpeedyG View PostYou are talking sh!t mate, Agger has more more goals and more assists than vidic. Not to mention he makes a damn sight less mistakes.

I think judging him on his very bad performance at the San Siro is a little unfair. He hadn't played for a few games and seemed to be short of fitness and match practice. He also didn't have his regular centreback partner..
