Our Style of Play Depresses Me

Take a look at this clip of our new signing from Barcelona... looks a good player but more telling the style of play. Short, neat passed to feet, great play around the box, and deadly in the box.

I wish we played football like that, lets hope this new Dutch guy gets our young players like that.

I think given the people we are signing now, youngsters and players we SHOULD sign, we will be playing attractive, free flowing, attacking football next season and for many seasons to come. Im ****ing positive today

With all due respect these comments annoy, the two clubs to have won the league the most since we last won it both play attacking football. Even Chelsea scored a record number of goals for a couple of seasons. The year Chelsea didn't win is the year they took out their fliar players and played a more static game.

I don't think we can win the league unless we go for teams more.

I honestly think that Chelsea do not play a more attacking or enjoyable style of play than us.

When they won the league the difference was that they had 4 players in the team who were dangers on goal (Drogba, Robben, Duff & Lampard usually) and were adept at taking advantage of set pieces. We tend to have 2 and are pretty poor comparatively at converting corners and freekicks around the box.

I think the set up of our team with the addition of two class wingers and or a more pacy and creative forward (heres hoping thats Torres) would be a serious rival for them. It will be interesting to see if this is the route we go down as it seemed from Rafas last set of signings it was what he wanted but by spending so much on a forward and loosing Garcia it really depends on what our budget is like in terms of whether we can get the quality in for the wide areas.

my opinion is at times we set out the team to attack, but generally at home and generally against weaker teams... we get ahead, one or two then rafa rotates or changes tactics to a defensive one to protect the lead...... this gets us results fair enuf ..................

would be nice to get ahead then with our heads up possibly bring on other strikers or use the wide men rather than pack the midfield and smother the game....

would be nice to get ahead then attack more and punish teams, 4-0 maybe 5

this can only lead to increased confidence in the team !!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't relly answer the question, but my feeling is i couldn't care less if we won every game 1-0 as long as we won the league.

I don't think chelseas style is all that different from ours, they concentrate on defense first and rely on 2 players to score their goals, Lampard and Drogba, neither are really flair players.

Drogba is an excellent player, but he's not a flair player, as for Lampard, well his shoot on sight policy seems to pay off but i wouldn't say he was flair either.

Rafa is going to sort ot the spine first, which he has done over the last 3 years, and you could argue:

Reina, Carra, Agger, Gerrard, Masch, Alonso - and to a lesser extent (Hyypia, Sissoko, Kuyt, Crouch, Carson) all give us an excellent spine with good quality backup options. Now is the time to add the final bits of quality to the wings and up top and see how far that takes us.

We're on the verge of signing Torres for 24/27mil which is one of the biggest money signings ever in the prem, and your talking about depressing play, can't understand where you're coming from to be honest

The signings issue is not related to how Rafa sends out his teams in the premiership. I don't think he has learnt all that much in his 3 years here given our away record last season. That has got to change and with 3 good attacking players in this summer I hope and am excited about things changing.
