I hope Benayoun does well for us now he has signed but my argument was that I would rather see some of the younger lads given a more active role in the first team than spend £5M on Benayoun if he is being signed as more of a squad player.

I personally thought it was quite a rational point of view....

Well, being a Reds supporter, I hope Benayoun does well for us, but I have seen him play for the Hammers 5 or 6 times last season and a couple the season before (NOT Utube or CM!!), and I still say that he is not of the required standard to meet our ambitions. Just my opinion and time will tell (and I hope I'm wrong!!)

The suggestion was to give younger players a "chance" not that he was better than Benayoun - whether he makes it or not remains to be seen. However on the other hand we could pay £5M and £50,000 a week (£14.4M transfer fee plus wages over 4 years) to a player who is no better than what we already have and hardly going to enhance the first team which is what this summer was all about. It is about balancing team quality with giving a chance to youth players who show promise. We have won the last 2 FA Youth Cup's so we can't be all that bad.

As I said I hope we buy a top class winger in addition to Benayoun as we need that quality to compete, but if we don't I think this signing won't be enough to challenge Chelsea and Manchester United.

I do liked your last sentence and it was an amazing put down, in fact so amazing I've actually forgotten what you typed. School holidays soon fella, Butlin's awaits - you can use your skills in the numerous stand up comedy acts you get to do there.

the youth players who show promise are best getting a season loan under there belt and accelerating there growth and maturity, this in the long run could save us a fortune and ensure a good few youngsters are ready when they get there chance with us.
I would take benayoun over sidwell, we have added to an area thats already strong but we have bought a player who could become a fantastic team player for us

to put it in comparison - nugent for £6m vs benayoun for £4m. Seems like a good bit of business for quality premiership proven back up who will be happy to come out and give his best against the bottom 10 clubs when we need him.

Remember the season is long and we will take part in 4 competitions so if we want to win more than one of these we need at least 22/24 players who are of premiership standard and Benayoun is definatly that. ....Back to lurking

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

                            Okay, forget the swap thing.

But don't you think the fees for the Bellamy and Benayoun transfers have balanced out conveniently evenly?
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

                              No
just a coincidence in my opinion.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                              * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs
