Sorry, I should have made myself more clear, I was talking about the final third of the pitch, the attacking/goalscoring areas.

Most of our best players are defensive, and we have a fantastic defensive unit, but on the attacking side, we've not yet added anyone who the top two would be jealous of (Torres possibly, has been discussed at length, but still unproven and the top sides have very good strikers)

OK, I agree that I´m probably more jealous of their attacking players than they are of ours. But I think they´d take Torres in a heartbeat, either team.

To score goals yes, but I don't think he's a natural goalscorer. Didn't Rafa say something like not to expect 25 goals a season from him, and that he's looking for 15?

I'm actually happy with our forward line provided that we get proper service to them. The alternative was to buy a genuine goalscorer and leave the wide areas. Given that we've not bought an out and out goalscorer I just think we need someone new to get proper service to our strikers.

WUM isn't a word, its an acronym, and given your record on here so far, isn't an entirely unjust one to apply to you at that.

Your card was justified, and another simply for appealing like Gary Neville to get another person "booked" probably would be too. Now quit acting like a twelve year old, its got tiresome already.

True, but even assuming that he does for a moment, we've signed one player that gets into one of the top two teams, is that going to be enough to challenge given that the rest of their sides are superior (bar maybe CM, but we're very defensive there).

I think my point is that everyone is expecting a title challenge this season due to the excitement of signing Torres, but is overlooking the fact that we've only actually improved our starting eleven by one player, who may or may not be on a par with the best in the division, and have yet to add any real creativity or flair to provide service to him (which was our biggest problem last year).

As I said before, I'm not saying that we've done badly, rafa out etc, but that I think we need to improve further before we challenge. Our squad will be very, very strong after this summer, and hopefully next summer we'll add the fabled 'last piece of the puzzle' to enable us to challenge.

That said theres a lot of time left in the transfer window, and if we can get one really exciting flair player in, then I could well be revising my opinion!

There's a lot of sense to what you say, and I think it's clear that we're still only the third favourites to win the league, but I do think you're overstating the case slightly. The crucial difference is we now have the tools to break teams down that we so lacked last season. We finally got some ball carriers in, some players who can force defences to turn and run towards their own goal.

We don't have quite the collection of brilliant individuals in attack that Chelsea and Man Utd do, I agree. But we do have is enough quality to challenge. If we can get back to the consistantly high level of team performance we displayed two seasons ago then with better execution in attack thanks to the players we've added, we have every right to feel we can still be in with a shout come April.

I agree that having brilliant individual players makes a big difference, sometimes the difference between winning and losing the league title, but we do have attacking quality in depth now, and if we don't mount a challenge then it will be more down to lacking a cohesive pattern of play than because we brought in Benayoun rather than Quaresma for example.

HAHA. Alrite, what has Torres done to warrant a place over Sheva? Sheva has scored buckets in the champions league, an immense ammount of goals for kiev and milan, and remains a world class player. Torres, erm, if i'm not mistaken, has not shown any sign of reaching such levels.
