Friedman wasn't orthodoxy then (if he still is) so we read a little more widely than you appear to have done.

I did Economics from GCSEs to A-Levels and a fair bit at Degree/Professional level (so from 1991 to 1995 at school) : almost EVERYTHING boiled down to being about Monetarist Theory. (Keynes got the odd look in )

Any exam question (i.e. discuss 'privatisation vs nationalism') basically had a right answer of 'privatisation = brilliant, nationalism = bag of ****e'

Since then I've realised that the theory might make sense, but the reality is (ironically) far more complex. I actually wonder now if any student of Economics since the early 1990s was essentially brainwashed (myself included).

It's probably true. When I did A level it was all Keynes, as pre-Thatcher, both UK parties were Kenysian, and Monetarism had been out of favour since the thirties.

I'm a born and breed Scouser. I left the city to go to uni in the early 80s. Does an OOT who goes to most of the home matches have a greater right to watch the reds or me - who perhaps only gets to see them at best - half a dozen times a season?

Frankly, we're an international club, we need all the support we can get. I don't care where the feck they come from as long as they genuinely support the club.

In my honest opinion, Capitalism is the root of most of the evil on our green planet - and probably the driver to kill the human race. However, the only other current theory/model that we can work to is Communism (which SHOULD be the solution, if humans weren't human (i.e. the classic basis of Economics - Finite resources yet infinite wants.) but seeing as we are human, and we are incapable as a race not to take more than our fair share, Communism falls over, fails and generally causes a right old pickle for the state.

So, to some up, we are all ****ed!

Extreme monetarist policy and communism have a lot in common as they both claim that that can provide resources for all. They are both "Utopian" in outlook. In communism the state is the center of this process. With monetarist theory it's "the market" that will provide for all.

Like communism, monetarism is another kind of repression - a dictatorship of the "hidden hand" of the market...

Of course, because it sees things purely from an economics point of view, rather than taking into account the wider effects as you have alluded to.

Just found this Friedman quote which sums up his naivete to me:

"The most important single central fact about a free market is that no exchange takes place unless both parties benefit."

              Yeah, alright then Milton :whatever:

And there is no better place to start than read some books written by Dr Milton Friedman - father of modern economics, leading advocate of free markets and a Nobel Prize winning professor at my school University of Chicago! Why not start with a famous television program called "Free to Choose". There Dr Milton Friedman will try to explain (without the complex math) some very basic ideas of economics - should be very easy for everyone to understand!

As for Los Rojos, I agree 100% with Dhavlo's response. Let me add few of my own thoughts being the only "Oriental chum" on this forum. Comments like that I am pretty much used to so it doesn't upset me at all. I've been fortunate enough to live, study and travel on almost every part of the world, and I can say that the urge to dislike anything 'foreign' is in all of us - at least innately. I say to my friends that the most discriminatory people I have met is not in the United States but in Korea. Korea is the most racist and discriminatory place that I have lived in but this isn't because Koreans are more stupid than everybody else. It is simply because Korea is a very homogenous country with relatively fewer 'foreigners' than say UK or United States. Therefore, the chances are that they have not been educated on this delicate issue as they have not had to deal with 'foreigners' as much as the folks in the United States.

For the reasons above, I suspect that Mors Rojos has rarely had an intimate interaction with 'foreigners'. His comments doesn't make him stupid, he just needs someone to educate him on this issue.

On behalf of ALL of us Uni, i appologise for this dickheads comments. If it wasnt for fans of "oriental" origin teams like ourselves and United would be ****ed. We are hugely popular in these regions of the world and for some moron to slate some "Japs" is disgusting.
In Liverpool it is very multicultural. Any scouser on here would agree with me there and thankfully a lot of Asian fans choose to support us and not the dirty bluescum.

*On a sidenote, I used to be in a band and we had a regular slot at the Cavern every saturday. We used to get lots of Asian tourists coming in and taking loads of pics and autographs and we sold a ****load of cd's too, and they were there one of THE BEST bunch of people i have ever met, and were as freindly and polite as ****.

So to my racist, ignorant, hill dwelling scouse friend, **** OFF. Your'e not the sort of fan i want to be associated with you muppet. :whatever:

I'm from a Liverpool family myself, we were living in Wigan by the time of Thatcher and she totally ****ed us up too. I've apologised for a very poor drunken post which in no way reflects my true feelings on the multi-national and multi-racial support our club attracts.

You have made a misguided assumption based on that original post. I can assure you that I am not a racist.
