I was talking in general :

Monetary Economics might work in theory, but it doesn't (seem to) work in practise. Service AREN'T more efficient, prices ARE higher, rich get richer, poor get poorer. If I've understood you correctly then you're almost saying the same thing - it should work in theory.

I've heard about 'Negative Income Tax' : interesting theory which has worked in some countries. Heard it being suggested by Conservatives (I think?) recently.

In reality, I believe you need a mixture of nationalism and privatisation. You only need to go to a few European countries where public transport is still nationalised to realise how poor public transport is in the UK by comparison
Thanks Disco. A sound response at last! I'll just make it very brief because Paul just told me to f*ck off.

Your last point: I agree with you 100% and talked about it in my response to Le Chacal above.

Negative Income Tax: I don't know whether it has been suggested by the Conservatives. Don't follow UK politics. But like I said, it is an idea first presented by Milton Friedman and is a system that provides the poor and people in the lower end of the income distribution with much need tax relief. It is now widely accepted by the Economics community.

Monetary Policy: What part of Monetary Policy are you talking about? Monetary Policy is such a broad term. Are you talking about money supply? or are you talking about just the broad concept of supply-side economics?

Er, don't know. Been winging most of this, as it's been a good 7-8 years since I had to think about it

I'll take a guess at 'both'!

Actually, I'm probably showing my age, and while I ain't interested in politics as such - more to do with the lack of variety available in the UK at the moment, than not being interested in politics full stop. I think this discussion has been interesting!!!

I'll have to do some more reading on the matter.

P.S. Uni, I purchased Freakonomics yesterday, so it better be good....
