Happy with Pennant and would like to see him have a chance. He was very impressive in this game. Some of his crosses were class but were not read by strikers. Watch his tracking back which is something I liked from him. Also his passing and decision making has improved in the last 6 months. He is one of our most improved players. Add a few goals to his game and we will have some player. Impressed by Voronin as I think everyone was.

pennant is a good player and i rate him (sort of) but i want a "world class" winger - if you can define one these days.

The way people are going on there's only about five players in the world people would be happy with us having out wide. We've added Babel and Benayoun, both players who like to take defenders on, and have shown they can do so playing from the flanks. What vital function is it exactly that people feel our wide players are not the right kind of players to fulfil?

Mate, read my previous posts and all of them. I have never said that these players aren't what we need, but others have assumed that we may still be short of 'out and out wingers'.

I certainly didn't.

Babel & Benayoun, add to that the fact that we have a very mobile forward line, is enough for me.

What about Paletta and Hyypia as a backline. I don't think they can cut it. Also as Shaggy said Hobbs didn't really influence the match much. That was even more obvious when Momo came on as he showed how it should be done. The Viera comparisons were justified today!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously I gave just positive ratings. Yeah, I agree with the statement that they will never cut it together (I think everyone should realise that after the Carling Cup defeat to Arse last season). In fact, I think Gabriel Paletta is the worst defender I've seen recently. Sloppy passes, can't man mark for ****, lazy and slow as fcuk! Don't know what Rafa sees in him ... Maybe physical presence, who knows?

Anyways, I'm left in raptures after tonights performance. I am very impressed with Voronin and Torres - I think those two should start in the next match. They'll cause mayhem, I promise you that

pennant is a good player and i rate him (sort of) but i want a "world class" winger - if you can define one these days.

He has the potential to be one he can go past players, is becoming a team player and improving in all aspects of his game. Remember how crap he was a year ago. I wasn't impressed when we bought him but if he keeps improving we won't need to buy another player. Also he seems to be starting to believe in his ability and I think that Pennant is all about the confidence. Watched him very closely and have to say he could be a big player for us next year

Interesting to read that it seems Momo had a good game.

With Mascherano looking like securing the defensive midfied role Momo obviously has to up his game consistently if he wants to play regularly. Good to see that he did well today.

Rafael Benitez admitted he was pleased with the performance of his team as the Reds beat Werder Bremen 3-2 in Grenchen, and praised the sharpness of debutants Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun and Ryan Babel.

All three of Rafa's latest signings made their debuts in the second half after two goals from Andriy Voronin and a stunning free-kick from John Arne Riise gave Liverpool a deserved win over the Bundesliga outfit.

"I was pleased to see us score three goals and it was nice for Torres, Benayoun and Babel to play their first games for us," enthused Benitez.

"They have only just started training with us but they looked **** hot. You can see the different options we have now in attack and it's good for the team.

"It was good for the supporters to see us attacking and playing some good football. It was not so good for me as manager to see us conceding goals but there were many positives for me to take from the game.

"We needed to work hard and step up our fitness levels and that's why we changed a lot of players during the game."

Sorry perhaps that was a bit unclear. Didn't mean to imply anything about your own pov. Just laughing at the idea that some people are ****ting themselves as we've gone through the full list of our wide players and *shock horror* none of them are 'proper' wingers

I mean, what vital function is it people feel we are missing in our team? If there's a problem with our wide men it will be down to them not being good enough rather than not being the right type of player. Because as you allude to, we have brought the right kind of players in.
