Gonzales unfortunately had to endure double the disappointment from fans because not only did he disappoint in performances, the team as a whole disappointed on the left wing AGAIN. Although Stevie and Xabi disappointed in some performances, I was never worried for the team in the centre of the park.
Fair points mate, just can't blame him for not being good enough/settling quick enough and to say he was the biggest disappointment I think is a little harsh but nonetheless not completely unjustified.
I feel that players that we know can perform and who are all ready settled should be criticised at a higher level than someone in their first season in a different league let alone a different club.
Still like I've said earlier as disappointing as Stevie and Xabi were I think there were exceptional circumstances for them with the amount football they have played over the last 2-3 years.
On a positive from all this Stevie & Xabi will not perform to that poor a standard again and Speedy is gone.

Spot on . 12 months down the line we can debate who has impressed us most during our title winning year.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Exactly mate I think we have made major improvements to our team and I really believe the break for the main players, plus new contracts sorted for them and a proper pre season bodes well for the next 10 months or so.

          Is my answer too.

Gerrard. He looked pretty much shagged for the whole season. The over riding thing is that if he can get back to his 05-06 form then we CAN win the league. I don't think you can say that about anyone else.

The fact is, we were never in with a shout for theleague because you need your good players to play well, and that didn't happen, with the exception of Mascherano, Agger and Crouch. Defensive midfield players and centre halves don't win you games though unfortunately.

Reina started off shoddily (made up for it though), Carra had a crap patch, Gerrard and Alonso were sub-par, Sissoko nowhere near the ability of the year before, Kuyt/Bellamy/Pennant either took too long to settle or didn't bother. We also had longterm injuried to Kewell and Garcia, players that have the potential to win us games.
              Very well put.

She's right in a way, but by the same token they help you to not lose games which, by its very nature, helps you to win games.

Gerrard - Looked uninterested at times and din't seem his usual self

Alonso - Sloppy in possesion for his standards. a word you would never use to describe Xabi
Javier Mascherano: 'I want to be settled and kill myself on the pitch so the team wins lots of games'

THere was only 1 game where he looked dis-interested. To make out that it was more than that is disingenuous in the extreme.

I did debate typing it - but you know what I meant. Defensive players over the course of the season need to be on top form, as do the attacking ones. We lacked the latter last season, let's hope that's not the case three weeks on Saturday (or is it Sunday?)

Biggest under acheivers last year for me were Gerrard, Alonso and possibly Riise.

The two that disappointed me the most were Gonzalez - saw a lot of him when he was in Spain and he looked utter quality, and when he scored the winner against Maccabi Haifa (sp) I thought he was going to be a star.

Bellamy disappointed me as well - he had a cracking season at Blackburn and I thought he'd get us 15-20 League goals last year.

Ah well, I wonder what we'll be saying next year when we look back at 07/08. Any early tips?

I expect nothing less than 25 League goals from the boy, especially for what we paid for him
