Am I the only one that thinks it doesn't seem right to carry "Anfield" over to the new stadium? It's the death of an era and a birth of a new one. If your son dies, and you have another one, you don't name your new son the same name as the last.

I would have no problem if right from the get go they started calling it Stanley Park. It's a new stadium, a new era, and a new look. Anfield memories will NEVER die, but with our new stadium we are going to be making new memories.

Still not sure where I stand on this issue. Initially I thought the same as you, but I was talking to a fellow red recently about matches and she'd completely forgotten the name "Highbury". Granted she's a bit of a scatter-brained div, but I'd hate for people to be scratching around trying to remember the name Anfield.
As I say, I'm not sure. I'd recoil at suggestions like "New Anfield" or "Anfield II".

I agree mate, and I remember saying that before. There's only one Anfield, it seems like just clinging onto the past calling the new stadium 'Anfield' when we should remember it fondly and move forward into the future.

Arsenal fans seem to do ok now despite most of them crying at the time about leaving 'Highbury' behind...a name is just a name at the end of the day, none of us will ever forget the events that happened at our old ground.

As long as we get a ****load of £££ and it isn't some stupid name, I'm all for ransoming off naming rights to the highest bidder.

Yep. We should take all the statues, gates, the Hillsborough Memorial obviously, anything of historical value, incorporate them into the new stadium and start afresh.

We've been caught up in the past for too long. If selling the name means more dosh to improve the team, that, however unpalatable, is the way to go.

I think no matter what it is renamed most people will still think of it as Anfield anyway. It's not as if we're leaving the area of Anfield.

Never going to happen is it..........given a relatively small period of time (example-Emirates....**** me Id nearly forgotten that Highbury was the last ground) people will associate us with whichever lucky company gets the nod to sponsor the ground.

And as mentioned the first deal is critical as its likely to stick!!!!

I like the St Marys example....gain a sponsor (friends provident) but retain St marys as the ground name.....that sort of thing would be ideal!!

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to hold on to the name Anfield. I just think sponsors are more likely to be interested and pay more where their name is the name of the stadium.

As per your example I didn't realise St. Mary's was sponsored by Friends Provident!!
