    Is Gerrard a footballing genius?

I think he is.I have had the privalage to see players like Dalglish,Rush,Barnes,Hanson and Souness.

I think that Gerrard is Definately up there with these guys.I havn't seen a lot of threads in the past 2 years just dedicated to our very own footballing hero and really appreciating how good this guy is.

My personal opinion is,i can't think of a single player in world football i would swap him with.

The goal against Olympiacos, the way he lead by example in the 05 champions league final, his pass to cisse ,and brace in the FA cup final, scored in the UEFA cup final.

These are just a few stand out memories off the top of my head,if i googled it,we would be reading this thread alnight!

I look at the kind of respect Fowler generates at the club and feel that Gerrard, being similar in stature and local boy done good, just doesn't seem to.

Does anyone think that he's not appreciated as much as he should be, because of the flirtation with the Chavs?

Has that changed anyones opinions on him that may mean that he might not be regarded as truly a great?

Imo,if he can lift that premiership trophy for us above his head,he will be the greatest Liverpool player of all time.

I disagree. I just don't think he's man enough and has character enough to be called the greatest of all time, also considering how many league titles Rush, Dalglish etc. all aquired throughout there reign.

I think they're a totally different kettle of fish, incredible personalities.

To be fair though, Stevie's still relatively young and he can become much better (and win more trophies).

He better produce the goods next season, that is for sure.

I want to see him in a settled position week in week out for a few seasons.
Then we would see the best of him.He can play every position bar striker and he is such a team player and unselfish. He has not played centre back for us but would probably read the game so well and have the pace and strenght to play there
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

He is definitely one of the best players to ever play for Liverpool.

But yeah, his reputation will always be tainted by the Chelsea business. Shame.

Was it just a mistake? The first time the future was quite uncertain tbh. With management changes and the type of football we were playing.

The 2nd was maybe a bit more desperate, and proberbly a little kneejerk.

Don't get me wrong thow,i don't think that he's totally faultless.I was really hurt by all those rumours myself and he didn't appease the fans by coming out pledging his total loyalty to the club, until number 5 was in the bag.

Would he of stayed had we lost that night? We wouldn't of been playing champions league football the next season.

                Rush left remember?
As for the Chelsea thing, put yourself in his shoes.
Tells the world on tv he wants to stay, but gets pulled along like a bad puppy. Parry and Rafa were to blame for the Chelsea thing.

SG is one our greatest - period.

Gerrad, a genius. I don't think so, hardworking, great passer, committed, passionate etc etc.

But genius in the mould of Kenny. Not even close.

I think he is legend now, the Chelsea bull**** was modern era football, the main thing is he stayed despite the obvious lure at the time of success and more money at chelsea. Ian Rush went to Juve, does anyone taint him for that, Stevie merely thought about it and had a little tantrum as he was being manipulated by a lot of people at the time.
He gave me the best night of my life in Istanbul, I will never forget that which makes him second only to Kenny for me.

Legend? Well on the way. Genius? Nah...not so far...just excellent. Anyone who holds the Chavski wobble against him isn't being sensible imho.

true, but he chose us in the end so lets move on.

                          I agree with that mick

Everything he does he does excellently, he has a lot of drive and is an inspiration to the team. There are no obvious weaknesses in his game and he is undoubtedly one of our greatest.
However, a genius has to have something different. Something he can do that no other player does. It may just be the ability to see a pass or hold the ball up. Dalglish was a genius because some of the things he did on the football pitch really took my breath away. I really did watch in awe.
I think Beardsley and Barnes were more "genius" than Gerrard.

Gerrard is definitely not a genius! He is hardworking and has a huge impact on our team, but he is not genius!

The last genius we had in our team was Fowler.

For me, genius is someone who can score a goal with closed eyes from every situation. Combine that with eyes for a killer pass and dribbling ability and you have yourself a genius! The biggest genius of all time is King Kenny. And if you compare Gerrard to Kenny ... Well ... Stevie ain't there yet. But he is still young mind and he has plenty of time to come up to that level

                              Thats nonsense mate, i'm afraid.
SG is twice the player Robbie ever was.
i've seen all the great LFC players from Keegan onwards and SG is the best I've seen, Robbie wouldn't make the top 10.

SG is vastly underated in my book. without doubt he's the best midfield player in the world. his performances when it really matters are top drawer. Against milan in Istanbul he took that game by the scruff of its neck. It was the biggest club game in the world and near as damn it, he single handledly dragged us back into that game.

the boy is a 100% footballing genius.
