    Leto gets clearance

Aug 2 2007 by Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

SEBASTIAN LETO has finally been given the all-clear to make his Liverpool debut.

The Argentinian has been granted a European passport and will be included in the squad which plays in the Rotterdam tournament tomorrow evening.

That means manager Rafa Benitez will finally have a full squad to choose from for the first time this summer.

Leto has endured a frustrating time since arriving at Melwood for pre-season, as he awaited documentation needed to play in the friendly games.

He remained on Merseyside while the rest of the team travelled to Hong Kong, but his wait to wear a red shirt will soon be over.

“He will be able to play in Holland,” confirmed Benitez today. “Leto will travel with the squad and we have permission to play him in these games. It’s good news for him because it’s not easy when you’re only training. You want to play in the games.”

Benitez is likely to give the 20-year-old, who signed from Lanus in a £2m deal, his first taste of action.

The Liverpool side will travel on the day of their first game with Shanghai tomorrow, as Benitez wants to subject his players to as little time away as possible following their excursions in the Far East.

Feyenoord will play FC Porto in the other game, before meeting Liverpool on Sunday.

The fixtures were agreed as part of the Dirk Kuyt transfer last summer, although it’s been evident throughout the process the timing of the event has not met with universal approval by the Liverpool management.

“We will travel to Holland on Friday because we don’t need the players to go too early and this will allow us to train as normal today,” explained Benitez.

“The main idea is prepare as well as possible for the first Premiership game against Aston Villa.”
"Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest."

I doubt it but I have a gut feeling he might surprise a few in the long-term.

I'd stick him in against that crap team we play on Friday and see what the lad can do, I haven't seen anything of him, was he highly rated back in Argentina?

I havent seen anything of him.

Although he wasnt playing for one of the big argie teams he was very highly rated among the argie fans.

They rate him as probably the best young prospect in argentina. I`ll have a bit of that thank you

                Wouldn't it just.

Not entirely sure what my hunch is based on. It's about time a foreign signing with little or no expectation came up trumps, and from the miniscule amount of footage of seen of Leto, I imagine he'll adapt well (and quickly) to English football.

So Leto and Vigo the Carpathian can make their debut Friday tea time? Early dart for me I think.

Seen a little bit of him on the internet, looks very energetic and is a big lad. I think as you say, he will surprise a few people.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

excuse my ignorance, know **** all about him, where does he play is he a left winger ???
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

He plays on the left but is not an orthodox winger. He's more of a left-sided midfielder and likened to Solari.

I don't really expect to see him play much at all this season.
