I think it also affected Alonso's performance. everytime he got it, he'd look up to see no movement and then would either play it backwards or try a very audacious pass, which didn't work.

That was exactly what I was thinking. At some point in the second half we went up a gear, Gerrard also then scoring. I know it's no excuse, but quite some players just didn't seem attentive enough, already focussed on next week?
