I think Kewell played pretty well yesterday. Much better than piss poor Alonso and Riise.

When we signed him i spoke to a few leeds fans. Genuine lads who watch leeds all the time and they were dead surprised we`d gone for him. They said he was a "match of the day player" where he will do one or two little things decent then do **** all else.

I thought they were being bitter at the time but soon realised they were spot on.
Sorry mate, but i saw enough of his games for them and he was most certainly a great player. You are right though that their fans were not very complimentry unless he had played a blinder. They were always suspicious of him as they knew he would leave and suspected he couldnt wait. Truth was he stayed until he found out he was being touted all over Europe to the highest bidder. So he took the matter into his own hands and decided to go where he wanted to play (for a cut down price ).

My Leeds mate seemed to love and hate him in equal measure. He said when he was good he was truly phenomenal, but only did it in fits and starts and he frustrated the life out of him.
Harry suffered a couple of injuries while at Leeds as well. Worst one being a tendon injury. He always took a little time to get back to his best. It needs to be said though that his best for Leeds was "world class" in the truest sense. He was a constant threat when on form and defenders struggled to cope with him at all.

I will add that discussing his last season with Leeds fans on their forums during his last year their they gave him little credit all year. They just didnt like him cos they knew he was on his way, and deep down knew they were on a downward spiral. Harry was the main reason for their survival that year, along with Viduka's last 10 games (12 goals if i remember correctly?). He was clearly their player of the year but listening to their fans you wouldn't know it.

PS Being an Aussie i do not know much about Leeds supporters but my guess, based on my time on one of their forums, led me to think i am not missing much.

Edit: I should add that i said earlier in the thread the only game we have seen of the "world class" harry is the Chelsea FA cup semi. Watch that game again and i can assure you he played many games for Leeds as good and better. I know cos i saw them.

Skillz, are you Barry's brother? Not Harry, his other brother? Huh?

We all saw him at Leeds. So he had injuries? So what - everyone does. You seem to have a raft of excuses for his **** performances and are carrying on as though he's one of the best players in the world when he's fit and on form.

            He isn't.

Don't get me wrong though - I like him and I've never understood the booing and the masses of stick he receives from Reds. He was a good player, did pretty well for us the season before last, but would appear to be on a steep (and premature) downward spiral.

No i am most certainly not his brother.

I am a biased supporter (as previously stated in this thread) of Harry and will defend him when i feel people talk **** about him. In the above instance it was due to comment that he was never a great player. That is bull****, sorry but it is. Regardless of what bitter Leeds supporters say.

You say i make excuses for his **** performances but i dont really other than to say he has played for us when 60-70% fit. Personally i would of preferred he didn't and made sure he got fit properly in Jan-Feb 04 before returning. He didn't though, and has continued to play for us when not right. Is it his fault or the clubs? I certainly don't know and do not profess to know but he is most certainly not the player he was.

Fact is though he and the club have drawn a line in the sand and spent the time to get him as right as possible for this season. He played very well in 05-06 considering he was only 60-70% fit (Rafa's word's, not mine) and broke down with another ridiculous injury at the WC. He has 4 months to find form and earn another contract with the club he loves and dreamt of playing for.

He has had the time to get fit for the season and in ready to give it his best shot. Yet many have decided he is past it and would prefer he is sold now. I can understand their frustration but i think considering we have just spent 2.5mill in wages alone last year to give him the chance to regain the required fitness level for the Premiership we should support him.

Why do I get pissed off, cos he is being slated he didnt break his balls in a bull**** friendly. Personally didnt see it and dont give a ****. I will wait till its showtime and make my decisions. If he breaks down he is gone, if he doesn't perform, he is gone.

He knows it, you know it and so do I.

What pisses me off most? Having to defend a LFC player fighting for his career when a we haven't kicked a ball in anger yet.

Fair comments mate. I do think, however, people are on his case not because of the Feyenoord friendly, but because of what he's shown (or hasn't shown) in a Red shirt in the past. Before you go off on one, I realise his spell with us, thus far, has been almost completely ruined by injuries, which patently isn't his fault.

Such a shame. I'll never forget dancing a little jig of delight on that beach in Nice on the day we signed him. I risked grave humiliation in front a bevvy of bathing beauties, all because I believed we'd signed "the final piece in the jigsaw".

Youre not the only fella who saw him play for leeds mate i promise, i did too. While he done great things at times I never thought he was a great player, sorry about that! P.S. i`m not a bitter leeds supporter.

BTW, I have based nothing on his performance in a friendly. I didnt actually think he was that bad in the game. I have based all my opinions on seeing him throughout his career, especially the part at LFC where he more often than not puts no ****ing effort into games and constantly refuses to take a fullback on because he prefers the easier option of turning around and laying it off to someone.:bird:
