Why were people slagging Dirk off today?

I saw a few poeple slagging him off during the game.

Fair do's I only got the highlights on MOTD but some of his touches were great. And the dummy that led to the goal? If Kenny had done it you'd have said it was genius.

I've expressed doubts about Kuyt but largely because I think he lacks pace. If he's going to make it with us then I think he'll make it as a link striker where his pace isn't going to be as much of an issue.

But credit where it's due. Everything I saw of him on the highlights were top notch today. Did the highlights really only show the few great things he did? That might be an argument, although I saw people slagging him off over things that the highlights DID show, and that was unjustified too.

Has scapegoating taken over from objective judgement?

i believe in strike partnerships. its plausible that even with his lack of pace that kuyt could form a good partnership with an out and out striker like torres.

but the general discussion of kuyt aside, what was it about his performance today that led to people slagging him off. he looked like he had a good game, and some of the things i read earlier that he got slagged off for were actually good pieces of play when i saw them for myself.

and i can say that as someone who doesn't have dirk coloured glasses on.

I thought Kuyt played well and did everything we know he can do. He worked hard, made some intelligent runs and linked up well with the midfield. The only thing lacking is goals and that is what strikers are being judged on.

We wouldn't have got the own goal if it wasn't for Kuyts work ethic. He was following up the Torres effort.

He should get some credit today in my opinion.

I can see why his performance would divide opinion.
He was so industrious that he did a lot of good things - notably some good one-twos and the pull back for the goal.
Howver, watching the game at the time i was getting very p*ssed of at the number of moves that broke down because of his poor touch or vision.

My gut reaction is that the sheer hard work and the decent standard of his play makes him worth his place.

Beardo and Aldo didn't have that much pace but as a partnership they were frickin LETHAL.

Strikers hunt in pairs, Torres and Kuyt could be a good pair.

HaHa, that is so true. Why would people pick on a guy who runs his legs off for 90 mins. So he doesn't have the greedy striker attitude and maybe his first touch isn't the best in the world. But he is constantly active in the game and defenders are constantly occupied with what he is up to.

He creates space for others, sets up chances for others, and does his defensive duties as well, (where it possibly arises the problem that he is not scoring goals)?

He's your typical Rafa player. I love what Rafa is doing. I love what Dirk does.
He is quality without the necessary quantity!

I thought Kuyt had a decent game today BUT there were a number of times when his heavy touch and lack of real pace meant he didn't do the most with the ball he received in the positions he got it. A better player would have made more of them.

There is also the point that I'm not sure he had a single attempt on goal the entire game, certainly none stand out, though he did play a key role in the opener and also setup a couple of other chances.

I was really impressed with Diggler today. Thought he ran his nads off and played a key role in the goal and set up a few chances.
Personally, i reckon him and Torres are gonna be a ****ing lethal partership. Two extremely intelligant footballers that know were t'uther one is ala Keegan/Toshack.
