It's fine to have reservations about Kuyt, but some of the vitriol yesterday was because those involved were either WUMs, or the kind of kids who think that real football is like Pro Evo, 8-0 wins everytime with opposition never touching the ball. :whatever:

I think Kuyt offers a lot to the team and he'll have a better season than last. It worries me a little than only one of our strikers seems to have serious pace, but we'll see.

but the general discussion of kuyt aside, what was it about his performance today that led to people slagging him off. he looked like he had a good game, and some of the things i read earlier that he got slagged off for were actually good pieces of play when i saw them for myself.

and i can say that as someone who doesn't have dirk coloured glasses on.
he was slagged off because he if SO frustrating. On at least 2 occasions yesterday he was put through with some sweet passes but was too slow (in mind & body) to make the correct decision as to how to use the ball. I was watching on Setanta & wanted to boot him so hard up the hole its not even funny.

I was counting Babel as a winger, but that's true.

Torres missed a few as well, in particular the one just before Kuyt played it back in before the OG, did you want to kick him in the hole too?

That is harsh.Crouch must sicken you with his no pace at all.
Kuyt is a very clever player

not sure i totally agree, i though he had a up and down game yesterday, he worked hard and created the goal, and did well at times other times he frustrated me do to his lack of pace, and not being smart enough to make up for it, he slowed down counter attacks cause he couldn't think fast enough or that his passes were simply weak. but i like the guy, he gives his all and i just hope that his hard work will create more chances, he needs to be more of a threat...

Did you expect him to score and us to win 5nil really.
We got the 3points and he contributed well to that

no i'm simply saying that he needs to improve his final balls

He played a beautiful ball yesterday to Gerrard who missed from 6yards.

He gave 110% as usual and linked play fantastically with Torres......very exciting IMO. They looked very good together. He also had some chances on goal....sure he didnt convert any, but you cant say any of them were easy. He also got us that goal, with his pure determination to not let the ball go out of play....alot of players would of given up on that ball....not Dirk!

People have to find another whipping boy (i'd suggest Pennant), because Dirk is a quality player.
I agree with you Harvey BUT I'm not going to slag Pennant off either

I think that the partenership with Dirk and Torres will produce some fantastic play with plenty of goals to keep the knockers quiet for a while. I was also very impressed with what I saw of Babel. Pacey, two footed and not afraid to shoot. Got into good positions to make himself available. Will improve when introduced from the bench over the next few months.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

He works hard, I'll give him that but strikers are looked at goals. Van Horse face was a ****ing lazy get but he got goals. Kuyt can work as hard as a greasy bodybuilder but if he doesnt put the ball in the back of the net, then what sort of a striker do we have?
He's not the most natural finisher, he's not quick, he sometimes assists, not great at heading but if Rafa plays him for sheer work-rate then it is a waste of a striker.
