Still think Benayoun is a mistake.

What do you think of Rafas spending so far this summer?

Very impressed although does the CROW count as spending when he was a Bosman?
I can't say any of the new signings have been disappointing. I'd have liked to have seen us find backup for Carra/Agger/Sami and a new left back.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Transfer are always interesting, because a few months down the line we can obviously reflect on the pros and cons.
I am pretty happy with the dealings, but would have loved to see a genuine, pacy winger come in. i would also like to have had an extra centre half for cover - we really only have Sami to cover for Agger and Carra. A number of people are also forgetting that Rafa has used this transfer to build for the future, and we now have an absolute queue of youngsters who will hopefully be groomed and make the grade. If only two of these young lads make the grade it would be good business.
Of the signings, I cannot really complain.
I think Benayoun in a good team will be a huge surprise to everyone - he is far better and much more of an intelligent player than many LFC supporters give him credit for.
Babel, Torres, and the Crow i think will also prove great signings.
In terms of who could have gone, well if the rumours about Juve wanting Sissoko are true, I would have cashed in on him. I really loved the guy for parts of his first season, but he frustrates me more than anyone else, and his inability to retain possession and get bookings drives me mad. He is a work horse on the park and tackles like a demon, but then gives the ball, and does not have the awareness that top quality players have. Lil Luis also gave the ball away, but boy did he make up for it with his skill and finishing.
Of the other lads to leave, the departure of Zenden was like a new signing for me.....coz he was just awful!

Hits the nail on the headOriginally posted by andyinswinton View PostIf it wasn't for Torres, I'd have been a bit disappointed.
Having said that, the new boys are here and deserve their chance. Give them a season and judge them then.
Having said that, the squad is still a bit light in certain areas.

Hicks or Gillette did say "Whoever Rafa wants we we get for him" which to me means, Villa, Alves and a world class winger be it Simao or Quasimodo, not Yossi, Babbel or The Crow. Torres and the youngsters were fine buys but wont close the gap enough. Our strike force will again be our downfall. Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

Players needed to be signed this summer who have sufficient experience and quality to make an immediate difference to the first team.
Torres will undoubtedly do that, he's class.
Voronin as something of an unknown quantity has surprised us all at how well he's started and long may it continue.
Benayoun, personally i think hes a better player than Garcia for that role, but nevertheless i remain to be convinced he will ever be more than a squad player.
The rest, Babel, Leto, Lucas are all potential at this stage, nothing more. Hugely exciting potential it has to be said and im sure they will develop into top quality players, but it would appear to be a few years off.
What i wanted was youth of this calibre signed along with players of immediate first team standard, which frankly i dont think we've done. We are still crying out for quality from wide areas in what ive seen so far, and we are at the very least a right winger short of winning the prem.
So, although im pleased with the summers business all in all, and our squad has definitely improved, i dont think we have signed enough of what was needed to give the top 2 a genuine run for their money. If you've lost your faith in love and music the end won't be long

Torres and the Crow will be worth their weight in goals , and Babel really excites me . I have always liked Benayoun , and think he will surprise a lot of fans . Haven't seen enough of Leiva or Leto .
When we sign Quaresma and Heinze on Monday , we will be ready .
So far though , well happy with the new boys ."Every time i sit around i find i'm shot."

Hicks & Gillette have backed Rafa as they said they would, Rafa has spent a fortune and got what I think was his number one target Torres, he has quietly built a magnificent squad but they are in the early stages and I think will need a few months to settle in before we see the best of them. Babel looks like he'll be a superstar, Torres is already looking the part, Rafa has several gems sitting in the wings waiting to prove themselves (Leto,Leiva etc)Originally posted by kev776 View PostHicks or Gillette did say "Whoever Rafa wants we we get for him" which to me means, Villa, Alves and a world class winger be it Simao or Quasimodo, not Yossi, Babbel or The Crow. He has also signed a host of promising youngsters that could easily become 1st teamers, and very soon he'll capture a top Argentinian from our rivals
And yet you're still not happy
Alves is going for around £25 million, That is ridiculous. Villa ??? we have Torres, Wingers, With Pennant, Babel, Kewell, Benayoun, Leto available would spending another 20 + million on a non premiership tried winger really be a good idea..well maybe because we want the best but it's not critical is it ?
I was looking at the squad for the Toulose game and at those left behind, and I was just amazed at the depth of quality available, all that's needed is for Rafa to get them playing right, And I have no doubt that will happen.

It isn't exactly like Rafa hasn't tried to sign a quality wide player.
Malouda, Simao, Mancini, Alves, Cicinho and Quaresma is players that we have made a bid for or asked if they are available.
Sometimes the asking club is asking for to much but at the same time, proven quality costs a lot of money and you can't expect to get them on the cheap.
I'm at least happy that we don't do our business in the dirty way that Real or Chelsea do when they tell players to miss training and skip games so they can get a move.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
