That's a better idea IMHO as it gives something to the community rather than just making a statement

There are too many impracticalities with the original idea. A humbling idea, but probably unworkable. This would be much better. A fitting tribute.

    What a football club.

    RIP the 96. YNWA.

Lawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"

Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"

Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

Nothing could be farther from my sentiments on this, mate.
I guess I shouldn't really have said 'cons', but lets say, concerns that I felt I had to think about regarding this idea.

Personally I think the families should be consulted as to what they want.

This imo is a nice suggestion but the practicalities of it does raise some questions

          I agree.

It might be better to name one of the stands after them

They should have 96 red electric candles around the roof of the stands that are on permantly.

Something like that would be nice.

The seats are a nice idea but has been said you'll get some fools sitting in them

The club haven't come up with this themselves but have said they are considering it. i'd be amazed if we do it as 96 seats at say £35 a throw over 38 games over say 20 years adds up to a few bob.

I think it would be a great gesture. Everytime anyone watching an LFC match anywhere in the world sees one of the empty seats you would automatically think of the 96. The problem with giving free tickets to kids is that the impact would be lost on a global audience.

I like rushians idea as well..but as mentioned earlier, seeing the empty seats wouls undoubtedly make people remember each and every game, and I like that idea. Whatever is agreed on im sure it will be the correct decision.

I take your points on board.

I do think leaving 96 empty seats is a terrific gesture, but one that would cost the club revenue as you rightly point out. The concern I have with it, aside from enforceability issues, is not so much the revenue that club would be deprived of as a result (and only the club can really determine whether this is significant enough to make the idea untenable), it's more the fact that every home game we'd be depriving 96 fans fans watching the game live at the stadium. It's bad enough that so many people are deprived the opportunity of watching Liverpool live because of Anfield's inadequate capacity, I think it would be bordering on calamity to lock fans out when we have the capacity to accommodate them. Bad enough 96 of our fellow reds are deprived the opportunity of ever watching the team again, precluding 96 fans from watching the reds live from every home game when we have there's room to seat neither seems equitable nor a fitting gesture to the 96.

I would have thought the point of a memorial is to give fellow fans the opportunity to go and show their respects to their brothers who were stricken down, and remember the tragedy that happened. I don't really see how having 96 empty seats achieves that. The lad's idea of having a little section where the kids are invited to watch the game free seems to be far more fitting. Not only do the kids get to see the match for free, but they know they are there in tribute to the 96 who died. And so a new generation of Liverpool fans will be made aware of the tragedy.

Just my two pence worth but I also accept that the wishes of the families are key and if they consider it the best tribute to the victims then by all means it's something the club should consider.

I think its a great gesture but I don't agree with it.

There are plenty of ways to ensure the 96 aren't forgotten with a memorial inside or outside the ground. Leaving empty seats just isn't right to me.

By the way this wasnt the clubs idea, if you remember my post after the RTK meeting with Parry.
It was an idea put forward by one of the lads at the meeting.

Nice to see they have listend to a few things tho

I love the idea but as others have said it might be a bit impractical because people would end up sitting in the seats unwittingly. Imagine the **** someone could possibly get if they accidentaly sat in one of the seats aswell?

I like the idea of giving the seats away for free to schools.

Another possible idea could be to have 96 mapped out in white seats, like the LFC sign in the Kop or the Adidas sign in the main stand, so that the symbol of respect can be seen when you enter the stadium.
