Actually Carra hasn't very good in the air either. He is good but not very good. When Carra plays against eg. Drogba, he will lose quite many headers.

I dont think it will be long. Ceefax says he wont play against Toulouse as one of the headlines, they wouldn't have it as a headline if he was going to miss a lot of time

I would like us to bring in a young, pacy, athletic centre back in the Gallas/ Toure mould.

I had exactly the same injury about two years ago. They put a tube into your lung to help reinflate it again. I was out of the hospital within a couple of days and walking about normally.

HOWEVER, I tried to run to catch a train one morning soon after and I couldnt cath my breath for about 15 minutes, I thought I was going to die. I have always been relativelt fit. I have never felt quite the same since in terms of lung capacity, only marginally less, but enough to be noticable. I would be a bit concerned that Carra will ever get to the same level of fitness again, but perhaps with the best medical care that these players get he will be luckier than I was.

That said I was back in the gym within 2 weeks or so after mine so I doubt it will take him much longer than that to recover.

IMHO the problem is the fractured rib, not the pneumothorax, in terms of keeping him out.
They are notoriously painful and everytime you breathe the ends of the fracture rub together, causing the pain. It also differs with which partiular rib you fracture.
If he's rushed back into playing premiership football before the fracture has had chance to heal then he risks another pneumothorax as well as continued pain. The best thing to do IMO is let the fracture heal properly and bring him back when he's ready.

Rib injury to keep Jamie Carragher out for fortnight

                    Aug 27 2007

                    by Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

                    Jamie Carragher

LIVERPOOL will be without Jamie Carragher for at least their next two games as the defender recovers from a broken rib and breathing difficulties.

But the centre-half is determined to recover in time to face Portsmouth on September 15, despite spending last night recovering in Fazakerley Hospital.

Scans revealed Carragher did crack a rib during an accidental collision with Pepe Reina at the Stadium of Light, and the 29-year-old was checked in for treatment on Merseyside yesterday after suffering breathing problems.

Further tests revealed a partial pneumothorax. Although that’s often referred to as a collapsed lung, Carragher’s condition isn’t as bad as that sounds.

He’s hoping to be released today after undergoing further tests, but was in positive mood as he spoke about his ordeal.

“Because of the international break, I’m hoping to only miss the next two matches,” said the vice-captain.

However, manager Rafa Benitez will face an anxious wait to discover if this optimism is justified.

Benitez is already without Steven Gerrard with a broken toe, and the last thing he needs is injuries to his star players undermining an impressive start to the season.

The Liverpool boss was already planning another move into the transfer market for a defender following the collapse of the Gabriel Heinze deal, but the sense of urgency has intensified now.

Benitez only has a week left to find an alternative target.

The Reds have also offloaded Gabriel Paletta to Boca Junior in a deal which sees youngster Emiliano Insua join Liverpool on a permanent deal.

Insua was originally signed on an initial 18 month loan.

On the plus side, Sami Hyypia’s broken nose won’t keep him out of action.

The Finn will be available to partner Daniel Agger in the absence of Carragher against Toulouse tomorrow and against Derby County this weekend.

I would rather see that he is out six weeks now than missing out another four, six weeks later if he isn't 100% when he returns and hurt his ribs again. We don't have any that important games the next six weeks.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Exactly, the other side of injuries is the psychological effect. I think a lot of recurring injuries happen because players are rushed back early, know they have come back too early and go on to the pitch with a bit of trepidation. Having said that, Carra is the least likely to be affected by this

Pmopey aside, the next games are very winnable. Derby, Wigan and something else.....can't remember.

Carragher's recoveries from previous injuries have been nothing short of amazing, so we'll see.
