This is bad news if true - Pako and Rafa have been a team over the years and for Rafa to lose his right hand man it certainly makes like a little different if not that much more difficult.

I hope he stays, but if it is true and he leaves, then I hope Rafa picks someone that will continue the good work Paco has done with us.

Pako and Rafa have been working side by side for the best part of ten years.

What the **** could have happened to cause this rift ?

          This is ****

Maybe it's for the good of their families, Rafa and Pako have fallen madly in love and simply must be apart if their family lives are to go on undamaged. Seriously, the hints were there, I mean come on - Pako mountain. We all know what that hill was really for. They weren't rearing cattle up there.

Why are we treating it like facts. I would have thought Bascombe would have had it today if true. Also no real insiders have said anything.

IF its true and he has not gone to join someone else then I am sure th club will say simply it's for personal reasons

i don't get any sense of anything negative or a sign of a bust up from that interview. it was posted a few days before athens, so if there had been problems by then wouldn't he been gone already?

Maybe the club have asked Bascombe to say nothing. I mean everything he writes is usually fed by the club he's their mouth piece. I'm sure we'll find out today or tomorrow if it's true. If Paco isn't on the bench for the Derby game it's obvious he's off.

Can't be put down to being homesick for that same reason either, decision would have been made over the summer I would have thought

It just will not be the same without Pako on the bench.

This is his profile from the official site:

Pako Ayestaran is Liverpool's Assistant Manager and moved with Rafael Benitez from Valencia in the summer of 2004.

Ayestaran has been by Benitez's side since their days together at Tenerife and is instrumental in planning training on a daily basis at Melwood and organising the physical work of the team.

"Training is very important," he says. "I think that no matter how fit players think they are, the same eleven can't play every game. For me, training is the most important thing. It is our job to make the players understand how important the training is and sometimes players come to me and say that they have played too much and need to train. When they say this, you know they truly understand.

"I think now the players have more belief in us and are more convinced about what we are doing and trying to achieve. You can see in training that the things that they are doing are the right things to be successful. The most important thing is not to win; it's to prepare yourself to have the capacity to win. It is not about wanting to do something; it is simply having the capacity to do what you want. Then, and only then, can you achieve your goals but to do this, you need to work very hard."
                          Oh ****.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
