Surely part of that has to be about the scarcity of quality English players as well though surely?

And to be fair Momo was a prospect and Hargreaves an experienced player in both the CL and international levels, irrelevant of you rating of their abilities.

Why have a north adnd southern reserves league. Combine them, and maybe the reserves will get enough games for them to develop. The FA et al seem to be more interested in blaming foreigners than addressing the real issue. The fix is soooo simple.

The traditional reason has been financial. I would guess that nowadays the PL could probably fund the transport and accommodation so that could work. I still think that non competitive football (i.e. with nothing really at stake - I know all games and leagues are by definition a competition) can only improve players so far. There needs to be something done to get young players this much needed experience.

Or follow the continental route of playing reserve teams in League 2. At least then young players are playing proper competetive footie.

What does it matter if there's quality coming through anyway? The English FA always appoint a clown to manage the team meaning that they never stand the chance of winning anything.

England have had a great pool of players for about 6 years now and what have they done?

£6m and Redknapp wanted to sell after about 4 weeks of having him at the club. Says it all really.

Let Prem team reserves play in the Vauxall conference to gain promotion to the third division. We`d have the Liverpool reserves in the Championship in 3 yrs.

Don't necessarily agree, but that is better than what we have today

I really can't be arsed reading all the replies but the original Liverpool team of 1892 was full of sweaties (Scots) and was nicknamed "the team of the Macs".

John McKenna was appointed director, and went to Scotland and where he signed thirteen professionals for the new club. The team was labelled "the team of the Macs" - with eight of the thirteen Scottish signings having a "Mc" prefix.
The famous double winning side of 1985-86 did not feature a single 'Englishman' in the FA Cup Final starting XI although Mark Lawrenson, who represented the Republic of Ireland, was born in Preston and the solitary sub, Steve McMahon, was a Scouser.

As other posters have said, Liverpool - the city and the club - has never really seen itself as English so the fact that only one player who started last Saturday was English is probably less relevant than the fact that there was only one player in the squad born in Ireland, Wales or Scotland...

Which is exactly what Rafa has been going on about, but no no, the FA don't want that, it would 'belittle the championship' or something to that effect was said, IIRC.

na, just keep it as it is, and loan all our youth out to the championship

a liverpool B team can't replace teams with 100 yr histories
