But surely you saw from the bascombe thread that a lot of scousers we're real pissed. Surely, he would have been aware of this. Why would he even take the chance. Where is the upside? There doesn't appear to be one.

Let's face it, Carra would have his pick of nationals if he was going to do a column.

but when you say loads of stick are you talking about people standing outside his house shouting abuse at him and doing the same while he walks down the street,and booing him at every home match.

i didn't claim to know anything about scouse feelings. you're the one making silly assumptions about carra based on some thread on the internet

so carra's family and friends aren't scousers? growing up at the club and in liverpool i think he would know more about it than you could ever hope to. keep on taking shots at him though

Can't agree with that 100%. I suspect the respective circulations would tell you that the people of Liverpool hate The S*n far far more than the NOTW. If you really believe it to be true, then you must think Carra was almost as likely to choose to write for The S*n? I don't believe that for a second.

There is a huge difference to me. If I see someone with the S*n wearing a pool shirt I can become incensed, in the end I tend to have a quiet word. If I see someone in a pool shirt with the NOTW though, I just think 'another person reading a ****ing gutter rag'. Same as I do if I see people reading other rags like The Star, which incidentally was initially included in the boycott but excluded from it after they made an apology IIRC.

That said, I do think the links between the two papers are a bit too close for comfort. It's not just that they are owned by the same company, if it were just that then The Times would or should be equally despised and as people have pointed out Sky would too. The thing is the connection is that little bit more than having the same owner, they are sister papers, they work to support each other in a much closer way than say Sky and The S*n do.

I think the absolute must for anyone that supports the Hillsborough Justice Campaign is to boycott The S*n. The NOTW is a grey area for me, I would never touch it because it's a ****rag so that decision is taken off my hands. Being aware of the close links between the papers and a knowledge of how these kind of rags operate, I have no decision to make. But not everyone is going to be like that.

I have formed my impressions of Carra on what he has done over many many years, and I will not let this one grey area decision radically affect my judgement of him, especially when I have little or no knowledge of with what understanding, intention, and reasoning he made this decision.

Nah, he wont get slated at Pompey. I'm going to the game on Sat and I wont be giving him any abuse, obv. Even though I think what he has done is ****ing stupid.
