I'd say he's one of the better RW's in the prem at the moment, there aren't many i'd pick ahead of him really.
Can you tell me how many goals Jermaine Pennant has scored or created this season?

Jack, Pennant's last assist was back in April against Wigan when Kuyt scored to make it 1-0. He has scored once in over a season.

Don't get me wrong, I think he has improved since he joined us and does offer something, but he doesn't produce nearly enough quality end product nor does he score goals to be a regular starter which is the position he appears to have in the team.

The problem with Pennant as I see it is that he isn't clever enough to know when to finish himself and when to make a pass into the box, so he he makes the pass into the box almost all the time even when he shouldn't do it.

The second important thing when you attack, after scoring of course, is that you should finish the attack so you won't get a quick counter attack against you. He should finish the attacks off instead of trying a clever pass more often.

He also need to learn how to defend. He works very hard but not that effective, something that Rafa commented on. It will be a big test for him the coming weeks with Agger out injured because that means more defensive football and more defensive work to do.

He is also mouthing off at the ref in game after game. He will get booked more and put the team and himself in trouble if continues to do that.

He is better now than last season but still not good enough week in week out.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I did and the answer is zero.

This is why I disagree that he merits the term "one of the performers of the season so far" because a lot of our goals have come from down the middle or strikers pulling out wide and creating for their partner, not from down the flanks which has primarily been due to a lack of creativity, quality or just genuine width there.

Pennant sees a lot of the ball but the facts speak for themselves in that this season he's done very little with it and last season he wasn't exactly Ronaldo-esque.

yup. I was impressed with him up to a certain point and can see he would be an improvement upon what we have. but thing is, as has been mentioned, his end product wasnt there and he is not worth the 25mill mentioned.

I don't know why we didn't sign this guy back in the summer, he's just the type of player we need. Personally I though he was very good the other night, he skinned a number of our players on several occasions and his crossing and all round play was excellent I thought which is why I don't agree with some people on this site saying it was poor, you lot must have been watching another game.

I don't understand why there's some people on this site who don't rate him, I know everyone's got an opinion but he's quality, just look at the skills he's got. Yes, he may go to ground easily and yes he's not as good as Ronaldo (yet) but he's up there and I believe he could get a lot better if we bought him. Has it not come across to anyone that he may have pulling off a few tricks to try'n impress not just Rafa but Livepool fans in general. I think we should pay what Porto are asking for him because I genuinely believe he wants to move to us. We haven't had anyone that exciting since John Barnes. If we sign him, maybe then we can seriously start thinking about winning the league.

                    Welcome to Est

I agree with that he would be a good signing but not for £25m. We do need a quality winger whatever people says about Pennant.

Pennant still has time to prove me wrong and start scoring and create goals but so far he has done very little of that and he is an attacking player.

Atleticos captain Maximiliano Rodriguez would be a great signing.

i'd take a youth team player ahead of pennant. but then i've never liked him. short of him breaking joe cole's or granny shaggers legs i never will.
As for the porto diving **** no thanks - no end product. Manchini would have been class as well as ribery.
But we have who we have, until xmas at least. Don't think the lad did himself any favours getting sent off like that. He should go take some lessons off our friendly argie who doesn't look like a spoilt moaning kid everytime he misses a tackle.

Quaresma's an over-rated show pony for me. I saw nothing on Tuesday night that made me change my mind. Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

Porto wing ace Ricardo Quaresma has put Liverpool and Chelsea on red alert.
The Portuguese star attracted serious interest from both Premiership clubs over the summer and admitted yesterday: "I cannot hide my desire to play for a great foreign club.

"When the moment comes to make a decision, I want it to be the best thing for both myself and the club."
