It reminded me of last season when Gerrard didn't turn up in a few games and it affected the rest of the team. He is the only player we have who gives the team that little bit extra energy and when he has an off day then there is no one who can replace that missing energy.

That is one of the reasons to why I wanted us to sign Alves until he was priced out. He gives his team that little bit extra energy.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

The way i see it the balls we sent through the middle would have been better received by Torres rather than Kuyt or voronin, the crosses which weren't exactly top notch, were begging to be controlled by Crouch. So for my money i'd have gone Torres/Crouch.

Got to disagree with you there. Crouch got on the end of a ball today, six yards out, and headed about 10 feet over the bar.

Yes he did and i remember, but we had about 10 mins to go at that point didn't we? the pressure was on and we were desperate for a goal. If he'd played from the start we might have had our goal by that point, or he mightn't have been so anxious to try and win it. Asside from that tho, it really should have been Torres and AN Other, in fact we should have just started with threee up top maybe Torres, Crouch, Voronin, not like we really needed the defense all game was it. That was a game crying out for a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3

Gerrard has been very quite in the last two games, which have been our worst two performances of the season.

            Coincidence?

Why do some people still think that Crouch is good in the air?

He is very average in the air. He miss sitter after sitter in the six yard box. We sold off our best attacking threat in the air, Garcia.

never said he was good in the air, said he was good at controling the ball from crosses, Kurt brought up the header

I don't think we can blame Gerrard for all the other players poor performances.

He has been poor himself, but no worse than others.

And we weren't exactly tearing Portsmouth apart without him.

I wonder if some of the others, be it consciously or otherwise, dont really give it their all when Gerrard is there, because they feel like they can step back and let him produce the goods.

Was it Ridgewell who dragged Crouch to the ground at Villa park before and gave a penalty away and could'nt handle him?
We dont play on these things sometimes and I think we need a guy who knows English football beside Rafa to remind him of these little things. That someone is Gary MacHe has savvy and has a great knowledge of the game.It was the same at Pompey with Glen Johnson. He is always there for the taking but we never take advantage of it.
