    Hammered Derby.
We drew away to Portsmouth not the worst result considering they've an incredible home record in the league only lost 2 all last season.
We were paticularly poor today and against Porto doesn't mean that our season is over and that we will play like that all season.
I'm not happy about today but we will go on to the next game and hopefully win.

I suppose you're right. One could say that the only truly awful result was today's.
    Really?

It's the biuld up of our attack that is wrong!

We play slow and sometimes walking football compared for instance to Arsenal!!

Mascherano and Pennant with knocks eh?

Lets bring in Lucas & Leto on Tuesday. Babel's a good player, but is not a left winger. Lucas, Brazilian young player of the year, creative CM... please Rafa!!!

Had we taken our chances would we not have beaten Villa and Sunderland moe easily, got the deserved win against the Chavs and got 10 vs Derby.

Last season we couldn't put the chances away and this season is much of a muchness.

In the last 3 games we haven't even produced many worthwhile chances nevermind score them, so what has changed from previous years?

the last few games in my opinion will be the norm, some wins but many missed opportunities, few clear chances most of which are missed, CRAP set pieces and probably a total loss of form sometime before Xmas which will rule us out of the league again.

Thats what i expect i hope Rafa and the boys proove me wrong.
            We come not to play.

It was mate, the performance was poor to, I have to say I was concerned that when we hit a bad patch that the knives would be out.
Playing or not playing Torres was not the reason we didn't win today.
Stevie playing his preferred role was no where to be seen, Babel is still adjusting but will come good and Finnan should've started he gives us more composure going forward and puts in some good crosses.
Also we badly missed Alonso/Benni today this was exactly the type of game for either.
Neither were available for selection that's football we have to get on with it.

                  Just one more thing.

Torres from the start is a must in the league.

We play about 60 games a season depending on the cups.
Torres should play the 38 league games and games in the CL after the last 16.
Our wingers are not contributing a thing and Gerrard will end up on the right when the going gets tough and either Riise or Aurelio(2fullbacks) on the left.Gerrard looked the most likely to score again and would have if Crouch had passed to him at the end.Monster was awesome today and never gives up.

Rafa should not rotate the stars too much because what replaces them is not good enough. We lost alot of confidence after Pompey.

For those Pennant lovers,he got so much possesion in great positions and he just crossed the ball in the general direction of the box.He limped off when the chips were down and he is giving us zilch.FACT

We have had problems on the wings for years and it is still a major problem.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful
                  everyone wants to know

I have to admit,i really felt this game was a home banker tbh.So Rafa didn't play Torres from the start, does that mean we shouldn't of beaten them?It really has nothing to do with Torres not starting. He may of made a difference,he may not.

It's really early for anyone to dismiss our chances of winning the league.Only 6 games in and unbeaten. We have already improved on last season.

Can we all look at the big picture here.Look at our main rivals,Chelsea in tatters, will lose at least their main goal threat in jan for around 3 - 4 weeks.Arsenal will lose 3 or 4 of their main players in jan.Man u are the only ones that will not really be affected by African nations,we will only lose Momo whom we have ample cover for.

What i'm saying is,it's a long hard season and it's a fact that we always come on strong towards the latter part of the season. We have picked up more points this time around and our main rivals are at least still on level pegging which is what we want.

If towards the last 5 games of the season we are in this position(considering the run in we have),who amongst you would't take that?

                    I certainly would.

Have faith and trust in Rafa as he will take us no 19,i'm so confident in that.

I'm not saying anything about had we done this had we done that.

I'm saying we have done things differently than last year, for a start we are still unbeaten, we have played well in 4 of our 6 games in the league so far and we are more likely based on the previous 2 years to hit a run of form that will keep us right up there if not in front.
We are 2nd in the table which we were nowhere near at this stage last year.
Plus we have scored more goals than this time last year and we have conceded less and NONE from open play and one the dodgiest decision of all time.
So there is plenty different from last year.
One bad result and 2 mediocre performances and you are talking through your arse.

Much harder start last season so not a fair comparison, we played Derby, Sunderland and Brum all new to the league so ALL should really be wins, OK we were unlucky vs the chavs but we always seem to say that against the other big 3.

Are you saying our play is different to last year?

If there isn't a positive result against Reading on Tuesday then this forum will go into meltdown.

Maybe Rafa wanted to save Torres for the Carling Cup on Tuesday night
