it was a loss no doubt about that....rafa was kinda naive even to the point of him coming out to say that heinze was in the bag. a real slap in the face for rafa i say. made him look like a complete fool when the whole deal went tits up. havent we not learnt from previous experience not to leave it till the very last bit to engineer a transfer.
I think Rafa was just trying to put pressure on the Mancs, nothing to do with any "we've got him" business
If that was the case why did Rafa not say that we'd definetly sign Masch 3 weeks before we got him?
Rafa was playing mind games IMO, just trying to get them to surrender Heinze because he knew that they'd take into consideration the Mascherano incident and how we managed to work that one out

Heinze superb at heart of Real Madrid defence
tribalfooball.com - October 08, 2007
Gaby Heinze was outstanding for Real Madrid in yesterday's 2-0 defeat of Recreativo Huelva.
The Argentina international was superb alongside Fabio Cannavaro at the heart of Real's rearguard and is threatening to establish himself as the Italian's ideal defensive partner ahead of injured pair Pepe and Christoph Metzelder.
After the match, former Manchester United left-back Heinze said: "It doesn't matter where I play, whether at fullback or centre-half. The important thing is to have the confidence of the coach."
After hearing of Barcelona's 3-0 defeat of Atletico Madrid, he added: "This win keeps up at the top. I don't believe the title will be decided just by Real Madrid and Barcelona. There's still a long way to go this season."
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
