Niall, I enjoy reading your posts but your comment on Babel having the ability to control a ball is laughable. For a dutch player both he and Kuyts technique is relatively poor.

I would rather player Pennant on the wing than Babel because he does attempt to beat his man whenever the opportunity arises. For me Babel is way to predictable. The number of time he receivess the ball and then cuts inside pisses me right off.

I have to disagree with you re Babel. His gola aginst Deby showed quality that the likes of Kuyt and Pennant haven't shown in over a year at the club.

But I'll freely admit we just haven't seen enough of him to make a definitive judgement on him one way or the other.

I hope to see him given a run of games - fat a chance I know with Rafa around. Because Pennant just isn't cutting it, I know he's from down your way but surely you'll concede his poor play.

I think most people accept he's very raw. he's certainly no "Henry" ( ) or even a C.Ronaldo ( :whatever: ) but he's talented. He has a lot of attributes which could make him a great player in the future if he develops his game.
I've said on a few occasions that he's not ready for the first team and maybe that's why he doesn't start that often. I think his natural position is up front not on either wing as he's not a tricky winger. He's more of a "hit them on the break" player for me

Which begs the question why the **** didn' Rafa make a top class winger a priority last summer. Im sorry Red Chilli but for fucck sake Rafa had decent money to spend in the summer but he decided to splash out on player with potential who's natural position may or may not not be as a right winger. Obviously Rafa has much more knowledge on the game than I ever will but imo it would have made more sense to splash the money on quality winger ie Quaresma.

Me too Marcus - never really saw what all the fuss was about. I'm pleased we got him, but I see him as "one for the future" rather than a 1st 11 winger right now - which is what we need right now.

Rafa's reluctance to go and get a proven quality LM and/or RM (Quaresma, Mancini, Alves etc), and settling for the likes of Leto, Pennant and Benayoun is really costing us. Same with Crouch, Vornin and Kuyt.

Maybe he approached Porto and they wouldn't sell? Maybe Quaresma didn't fancy it?
Who knows? But quality wingers are hardly two-a-penny. They are like gold dust these days and it must be difficult identifying one and then signing them.
Rafa failed in the transfer market from this point of view for the 4th summer in a row, I won't defend him there, but I don't think that's Babel's fault.

I agree that Pennants been relatively poor in his last few games but I still think he offers more than Babl on the wings.

Tbh Niall, I think maybe it is time to unleash Babl upfront alongisde Torres, afterall it is supposed to be his natural position.

I just don't get any positives from this unbeaten stat. We could go a whole season unbeaten and get relegated.

we have 16 from 8 matches so if we draw all the remainder of our matches that will take us to 46 points which is good to stay up, there.

Here we all go looking for a new batch of excuses when the problem is the same one that has haunted us the last few games. THE CM played CRAP.

If they don't hold on to the ball, the defence is going to come much more pressure than they usually. Guess what the more pressure you are under the more likely you are to conceed. Today was the perfect example of that.

If you don't ditribute well to players who have space on the wings and up front. Then guess what you will have fewer and harder chances.

And finally, if your captain gives us half way through the match, checks out, moans, doesn't track back, the the whole team WILL lose confidence.

I couldn't believe that towards the end of the game El Jefecito was the player showing leadership, driving the team on, never giving in, creating chances. It's a disgrace.

I couldn't understand why Stevie played so deep. There is a definate lack of cohesion in the team, if I was a Spurs fan I'd feel robbed of 3 points today, and rightly so.

Why the flock can't The Crow and Torres shoot with their left peg? not twice but thrice the pass was behind them for a good crack at goal, have a f*cking go will ya, ya supposed to be strikers!

I don't know what it is, Pako leaving, Agger and Alonso out but we need to get our sh*t together and fast if we have any aspirations of winning the title. You can play crap and win or even scrape a draw but F me we looked disorganised today, not a dig just bloody confused.

Rafa's Fury At Defensive Mistakes

Rafael Benitez couldn't hide his disappointment at the defensive errors he felt cost his team all three points in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
Fernando Torres last gasp header rescued a point for the Reds after Spurs had earlier come from behind to lead 2-1 thanks to two goals from Robbie Keane.

"First of all we made two bad mistakes and both goals were easy to defend against," fumed Benitez.

"We controlled the first half and should have been 3-0 up but we didn't take our chances and then we made some mistakes defensively. I always say when you are 1-0 up and you have good chances you have to take them.

"We showed character to come back and get a draw in the end but we must be disappointed not to have taken the three points."

I thought today was a lot better than Wed. We created a couple of decent chances and should have scored more than once in the first half. We take one or two of those and it's a different game.

Spurs did look dangerous but I thought they created very little; their two goals were scored from long hopeful punts where Berbatov won knock-ons. Absolutely no justification for Hyypia missing those, they should be bread and butter to him. We didn't make them work for them or earn those goals at all.

Two bad mistakes cost us and you could see our confidence was shot - I think that's why we weren't the same team in the second half.

We need to be more creative though. We created too little in the second half.

The only consolation at the moment for me is that we are higher in the table now than we have been at this stage in previous seasons. This without playing particularly well.

If we have our traditional strong finish to the season, all will bt lost.
