Agreed. See my edit above - may be we need to give the attacking team the second chance to score, rather than the defending team the second chance to prevent the goal, like a pen with no keeper?
EDIT: Actually, come to think about it, what about giving a penalty but with no goalkeeper in the goal? Or the goalkeeper is not allowed to attempt to save it? That way you definitely get the goal you deserve, the defending team is denied the second opportunity to prevent the goal and you haven't breached the rule that the ball must cross the line for it to be a goal. May be there's not even a need to send the infringing player off, as the goal is guaranteed.
Bizarre solution I admit but I feel needing to get the ball over the line to score is the one rule of football you can't compromise.
Give the attacking team 2 penalties? In such a situation Neville would have thought twice about doing it.

Certainly you're right in suggesting that the rules as they are currently do not act as a strong enough disincentive for an outfield player cheat by using his hands to stop the ball going in, especially in circumstances like today where the game is being tied and it's the final mins.
I also agree with you that an act of cheating like that deserves a lengthy ban
Right now it's Mascherano or Alonso for the defensive midfield position and Gerrard, Sissoko or Lucas for the second place in midfield.
Gerrard is our best player on the right and he should play there. That means that Sissoko or Lucas would play in the middle.
I would rather play with a player that can create something as our creative midfielder than a player that is out there to destroy the other teams play.

Gerrard--------------Lucas or Sissoko--------Kewell or Babel
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
We should play with a five man midfield IMO. We have the players to do that but we really don't have the players to play 4-1-3-1-1.

We seem to have the perfect set of players for a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3. But in the past whenever we played that system, we did not have enough players bombing into the penalty area thus nullifying our goal threat. Maybe with the current crop of players it is time to give that system a shot.
Lucas ... I love this dude! TBH, he is my fav Liverpool player. Well, obviously, Torres is my favourite, but Lucas is right behind him. This guy is going to ****ing rock! Mark my words!
