True support transcends rationalityOriginally posted by Kopite_Colin View PostI do - every time I watch the game I want him to play well, and score bucket loads - as I do with every player. I want LFC to tw*t every single team they play out of sight. But my rational side and my eyes tell me what happens on the pitch is very different. He simply isn't good enough. Holding any opionion other than that in light of the evidence of my own eyes is simply delusional at best and grossly stupid at worst. I'm not going to say black's white if the evidence proves otherwise.

We have to disagree on that then, because when he does get into a position to cross very rarely do we score directly from it. The chances are we'd have come even closer to winning the CL if he'd be able to deliver a decent final pass.Originally posted by Los Rojos View PostI don't agree Colin. I think he's got much better over the last 12 months and that some of his passing/ crossing is very intelligent.

Which is why I said I want every player to play out of their skins EVERY SINGLE GAME to the point of obliterating everyone on the footballing planet. So every time the team runs out: the hackles are up, the voice screams Come on Redmen" - and then most times he just disappoints (as do quite a few of our current squad). But it doesn't stop me being hopeful for the next game - but it also doesn't stop me forming a realistic opinion in the meantime.Originally posted by SpeedyG View PostTrue support transcends rationality
if we didn't have an opinion based on what went on the park between matches then
1) Life between games would be very boring
2) I'd have nothing to look forward to footy-wise on a Sat or Wed
3) Places like this wouldn't exist / you wouldn't talk about the game in the pub / at work wherever....

He was our best player apart from Mascherano in Athens.

I can't understand how some people automatically assume that because some of us don't rate a player we don't support him.
Like Kopite Colin, all of us wish he'd justify his constant selection, but he constantly disappoints me and many others.
Just because i never ever rated the likes of Diao, Diouf, Traore, Cheyrou etc etc doesn't mean that I never supported them when wearing the red..... I always wanted them to prove me wrong - they didn't and we're all thankful that they are no longer there.
i know we all hated diouf and could not wait to see the end of him, but when he played, we all wanted him to deliver - as the others mentioned he nevr did. End of!

So i'm a muppet for thinking his performances have been poor.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostCos he had a fractured leg you muppet, and his performances prior to this injury had been decent enough
When I look at wingers I look for assists and goals and he gives you none.
It's clear to see. This bull**** that he did'nt cost 20M and he was never good enough for some has nothing to do with it.
League winning sides for the last decade have had wingers who scored loads of goals and created just as many.Beckham,Giggs,Ronaldo,Ljunberg,Pires,Cole,Duf f,Robben to name a few.
Pennant is a nothing player compared to them.
Excuse me for being realistic and seeing exactly what he gives us:whatever:Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

Pennant isn't half the player Garcia is for example and people thought he should be sold because he lost the ball to many times.
Well, Garcia scored and created a lot of goals, that's what counts when you are an attacking player, not how fancy your tricks are.
We need wingers that can deliver more or less every week the whole season, Pennant hasn't done that so far for us.
Gerrard isn't any good on the right but he is miles better than Pennant will ever be.
If people are happy with a player that more or less don't add anything to our attacking play then Pennant is the answer. One goal for us and one or two assists in 30+ games.
He is a squad player, not more than that.
He wasn't our best player in August, September. Reina, Agger, Gerrard, Mascherano, Torres, Arbeloa, Finnan and Benayoun were better than him.
I support him just as much as every player that plays for us but it's my opinion that he isn't good enough. I hope that he proves me wrong but I doubt that.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
